Does anyone else keep their dogs entertained with kongs and if so what do you put in them?
I use peanut butter at the moment but good to have fresh ideas as they get bored with the same thing all the time. I have also tried tinned meat but its very messy and they get it out too quickly. Anyone got any more ideas? What do you do at night to amuse your dogs (apart from kisses and cuddles) or do they just go to sleep? Willow loves his Kong!

We put meat/fish potted sandwich paste in. Salmon being a favorite. I tend to emply a pot out into a bowl and mix it with a few crushed biscuits or cheese. Then keep it in the fridge until needed
As for bed time Blue leans on us from 9.30ish until we go to bed. A couple of bed time biscuits and he is happy until approx 7.am!
I've used cheddar cheese, cheese triangles & cheese slices in ours. If you don't mind gooey fingers for a few minutes get it all mushed up and really pushed in as tight as possible. I did find a great idea on the internet - mash up a banana, mix in some porridge oats and some natural yoghurt. Stuff the kong and freeze for about 4 hours. Leave to stand out of the freezer for 10 mins before giving it to the dog (to avoid freezer burn!). Kong lollies for dogs!! Wilma loves it!
As for bedtime, the dishwasher gets switched on (it's her security blanket!!), the door gets shut that's it until morning!!

Dan doesn't really get the concept of Kongs, but Sally likes banana in hers. We only give her it once in a while as it can seemingly lead to a runny bum. Its not too messy and she loves it.
As for night time, our two just crash and want cuddles, although Sally does complain if its getting late and your not in bed or the telly is too loud. She just groans alot!!
Casper can't get any treats really because of his sensitive tummy so I get his dried food, mush it up with a bit of water, put it in the kong then put the kong in a freezer bag in the freezer. I take it out a while before i go out so its not too hard for him. He loves it Casper mostly sleeps at night but is also guilty of biting my feet to keep himself amused...Here's the evidence

We use fish paste or chicken paste too. Or peanut butter, cream cheese - anything gooey. Bung in a few crunchy biscuits and you're good to go. But we stick them in the freezer for a while so the filling goes hard and takes longer to lick out.
As for night-time, do you mean during the evening? That's a finely-tuned routine dinner, walk, bit of training and bedtime. During the night they're just in their beds where they sleep until one of them decides they want a cuddle, at which point they might whine or wuff in a half-hearted kind of a way.
I sometimes put pate in a kong for Vernon. He also loves cheese, dog biscuits or ham. Pate is the best as you can smear it in the ridges so it takes longer to get out.
Ziggy isn't keen on anything he has to work at and prefers hand to mouth treat giving (very wise)
Vernon also has a puzzle ball which I put mini bones or kibble in and he plays about the floor with it. Usually in the evenings.
As for night time, I take them for a walk about ten or ten thirty, we bring their beds in and they sleep on the bedroom floor. Not a peep all night so no entertainment required. If Steven is here Vernon doesn't try to get on the bed but when he isn't he sleeps with me
I'm afraid i dont have a kong for my too Is that making me a bad mum? They have their stuffed toys, Angus has a huge shark and Jenna has a duck, but nothing that they chew toys wise. They get an occasional pigs ear but appart from that my two are quite boring, they arent even interested in my feet ( can really blame them on that piont right enough). At night time after a walk and a feed they lie in the living room with me,watching telly and the click of the remote to switch it off is the que for the two of them to go hairing down the hall to stand outside my bedroom door. They sleep all night in my room without a peep out of either of them.
I must be a bad mum, mine don't get any of that tasty stuff in their kongs. I use the small bone shaped biscuits and jam them in tight as possible for Ruby as she bounces the kong about to dislodge them, and not so tight for Bob (because he's a bit dim and just tries to lick them out). I do sometimes put some cheese, cold meat or general leftovers in as well. I did try dog food once, but they finished them in under 2 mins. Freezing is an interesting idea, might try that.
I must have 3 deprived pooches as our 3 don't have kongs!! However after they've dragged themselves off their beds for a last piddle out the back they come in and stand patiently waiting for their bit of cold meat..then they know it's bed time for real and they sleep right through until morning!! Our 3 are the laziest pooches I've ever come across in my life!!

Neo and Sally don't have kongs either, so i'm joining the bad mum list, LOL.
I have always meant to get them and just never got round to it but i probably will now that i have some ideas of what to put in them.
Bed time in my house is a bit strange, after the last wee of the day, they both get their p.j's on and as soon as the telly gets switched off Neo runs upstairs and settles on his bed in my room. Sally on the other hand is very sneaky, she knows if she comes upstairs at the same time she will be sent to her own bed to sleep, so instead she goes and lies down on the bed in the downstairs hall, waits until the whole house is asleep, me especially, then quietly sneaks upstairs and curls up next to me on my bed. She really isn't daft though, she makes sure she doesn't get too close so she doesn't waken me in the hope that she will get away with it...............and yes, she usually does!!
Maybe, one of these days, I'll get round to getting some. Mine don't really need entertained (thankfully). Wills shouldn't be getting things like cheese or whatever, Millie is probably too lazy to work at getting the stuff out, only Tigger might need one as she can create enough mischief for the three of them!
