We will need a few volunteers again for the Greyhound Awareness Day this Saturday. Again it will be at the Scottish SPCA at Bothwell Bridge. There are 6 lovely Greyhound/ Lurchers there that are in need of attention. The lovely ladies - Bianca and Bambi went home only to be replaced by the lovely "Thelma" and "Louise" - 2 wonderful bouncy greyhounds! The time is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Jenny I spent time with Thelma & Louise - 2 gorgeous young girls - super dogs, I believe they were just abandoned racers not making the grade. Thelma was almost (she was a particularly good looking brindle dog) on the brink of being taken by a couple, as they spent hours thinking and coming back, so I wonder if they came back for her on the Sunday?
Thelma and Louise are still at Bothwell, although we will hopefully be picking up Louise tomorrow. Our last dog, Caley (big white dog - wearing sunglasses in an old GAL calendar) passed away in the autumn and this is the first cat friendly dog that we have been aware of -thanks for the tip off Dave. I will update how we get on!
Thelma is the spitting image of our dog before Caley -both are lovely young dogs and I think that Thelma will be homed quickly.
That's really lovely, Louise was such a quiet and gentle wee soul, and will be a smashing dog. I watched her with a family and she stood so well and patient with the children fussing her. Lots of luck and hope we get pics soon
Well, Louise (soon to be renamed when we agree on something!) is now home with us - howled all the way in the car, peed as soon as she got in the house (and again about an hour later after a couple of walks), not really too interested in the prescribed dog food but likes edam cheese, desperate to play with anything - shoes a favourite, brushes, towels, we were told she didn't like stairs -she races up and down them already and there are a few in our house. She has done really well considering how stressed she must be feeling and she appears to be a really nice dog but with a hidden personality that might emerge through time for a bit of mischief. A really friendly wee soul all in all.
We will get her to some GAL events or a dog walk so you can have a "live" update,
Oi, whats wrong with the name Louise?! (I have never forgiven my mum and dad )
When I started reading about her I thought she sounds just like me, being a 'quiet, gentle soul' myself ....................is anyone buying this considering I live with two greyhounds, Dexter (NOT a dog, but human) and Kai(I am tornado???)
However, since reading your update, yup she sounds well suited to me and ma gang!
Ian it's nice to hear Louise is home with you, and certainly sounds like you are bringing out the pup in her. I couldn't believe how quiet she was for a pup, so it's nice to hear how excited she is with her new family - looking forward to pics and updates.
We are debating Dubh; Bella (because she is such a wee beauty); and a few assorted others - we will come up with some agreement tonight -she is black with white socks, a white front and some white on her belly and a white blaze on the back of her neck. She has the most smooth coat (I know Linda did a lot of work on this at Bothwell and she is in really great condition). Louise is a nice name!
Still a nameless hound .........I suggested Nemo but it didn't go down well! (neither did Loki). 2 friends had their 17 year old cat put down today so they are drowning their sorrows in a pub and phoning us with suggestions for names -I think they will get more bizarre as the night progresses! If she was male it would be Zorro as she has the mark in white on her neck. I've taken a day off work today to help get the new pup settled in - she is quite a bright spark and learns quickly, is desperate to chase cats, squirrels, pigeons, rabbits (she has seen 2 already) and tried to scale our back wall earlier. She has settled noticably from mid afternoon and has stopped following me around - her confidence is growing. Initially I plan to take her to work -she will be in the car but secure and there is a large park just adjacent to my office and I am out and about a lot, so she will be walked every 2 hours or so. I'll post pics when we take them - we forgot what having a young dog around was like -but she has a lovely personality. Any name suggestions welcomed!! We think she is a goddess!!!
She sounds lovely and really glad you all found each other
Strange that you thought of Nemo as a name for her, that was my big male's name when he came to live with me and i quickly changed it as i don't think it suited him, so he became Neo instead!! (yep as in the Matrix, my son chose it!!)
I have always liked Magpie or Minstrel for a black and white dog,but they are not very girly names. Hope you manage to agree on something soon and let us all know.
We quite liked Minstrel as well and Loki was also god of mischief (Norse), but male and god of a lot of other nasty things apparently. We have gone for Juno, one of the first names we thought of -queen of the gods! Thanks for the suggestions - Juno is already living up to her name and watching her acolytes do her bidding!!
Yay, she's got her new name. Sounds like you are all having a good time, and enjoying each other. I'm sure Juno is just so excited and can't believe her good fortune at finding her forever home
She is doing well -sorry unable to upload any pics - but we have posted one of her on the Greyhound Data site -hope we don't offend anyone by posting a hound lying on a bed amongst her ancestors who have illustrious racing histories! She is under Louise and then the April 05 whelping if you want to check her photo out.
She comes to work with me quite happily in the car -and likes getting 5 or 6 walks from there -pre work, mid morning tea break, lunch, afternoon break and the way home - there is a big park next to my work and I am out and about a fair bit -she got to Strathclyde Park today, for instance. We are still having the odd wee accident in the house -but it is less than a week since she came and her progress so far is great. She came to us as cat safe -she certainly isn't, but we are working on it. She is a delight to know and we are looking forward to many happy years with her. She will no doubt apear at a GAL event in the near future - she is super friendly to people and dogs, so you will get a warm welcome from her!
Just had a look at Juno's pic on GD website and she is Mason's niece! Frisby Flashing, her grandad, was his dad. Following the family trees are fascinating and I much prefer to see pix of the hounds relaxing at home than racing on the site. She looks so comfy
