This press release has been issued by Lothian and Borders Police this morning....there are no words
Police in Edinburgh are hunting a man who beat his pet dog so savagely the child who was with him vomited. The horrific incident happened at around 10.45 am yesterday (March 6) on the promenade at Marine Drive. The man, who was holding a small boy aged about one, was seen kicking a blond-coloured Spaniel dog 10-12 times on the head and body. The dog went limp and the man then dragged it by its lead, pulled it over a three foot wall and then continued to stamp on the dogs head. The young child was so upset witnesses say he vomited in fright. The culprit then threw the dog in the back of an L-registered silver Mitsubishi estate car and drove away. A number of witnesses tried to intervene and make him stop his attack but he paid no attention to them. He is described as in his 20's and smartly dressed. The car he was driving had a car seat. A police spokeswoman said: "The sheer brutality of this man's actions shocked witnesses who contacted police immediately. It is imperative that we trace him as soon as possible. "Witnesses describe the dog as being limp after the attack and we need to find out how seriously injured the pet is as it may need urgent veterinary treatment. "We are also very concerned that he had a wee boy with him who was obviously terrified. In fact onlookers said he was sick as he watched the dog being attacked. "We would urge anyone who thinks they recognise the description of the suspect or knows who it may be to contact police or the SSPCA." Anyone with information can call Lothian and Borders police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111
Words arent enough!! I feel sick as well at this, I do hope they catch this beast and throw the book at him. poor wee child, I wonder about his safety also.
That poor dog and the poor child who had to witness the attack. It really makes me sick that people can do that to an animal. I really hope that they find this man and make him pay the penalty of such a horrific attack on a poor defensless animal. Really, really hope they find the dog in time and can a more deserving home can be found for it.
I HEARD ABOUT THIS ON THE RADIO THIS MORNING, IT IS HORRENDOUS TO THINK THE MAN WAS CAPABLE OF DOING SUCH A TERRIBLE THING IN FRONT OF HIS CHILD AND PASSER-BYS. THAT POOR DOG AND CHILD, I HOPE THE POLICE FIND HIM AND THROUGH THE BOOK AT HIM. Nora

I feel sick to my stomach just reading this. I too worry about the safety of the child. Poor wee pooch . what can a dog have done to warrant this type of attack is beyond me.

No matter what the wee dog did, it did not warrant that kind of treatment! I only hope that the poor wee soul is going to be ok. I don't for a minute believe that the wee dog is ok at present and I dearly hope that they find this monster and get the dog treatment quickly.
If and when they do get him, the punishment will not fit the crime!
I tried to avoid listening to this story on the radio because it was so upsetting, but eventually I sat through it and almost cried. If he can do that to the poor wee dog what is the child suffering. I hope they catch him and give him a lifetime ban on keeping animals. I imagine there will also be a child protection investigation when they find him. I can think of a few punishments that would suit, unfortunately none of them are particularly legal!!!
Update this morning. The man has been traced and arrested and will appear in court later this month. The Spaniel apparently survived its ordeal and will make a full recovery. Understand it is in SSPCA custody.
That is greta news, I've been feeling awful about it, I'm so glad the wee dog is safe and just hope it recovers from such an ordeal. Here's hoping it finds the best home very very soon so it can put this behind it. I hope they really throw the book at the beast, though even that is hardly enough.
Thank goodness they have found this evil man - really hope that he get what he deserves. Am relieved that the dog is ok physically but I wonder what sort of state the dog is in emotionally after such a savage attack - it'll take a really special person and home for this dog to feel safe again. Fingers crossed that that home comes along soon. I also wonder what sort of effect that this whole thing will have on the small child who witnessed this - my heart really goes out to both the child and the dog.
Thank God they have found this beast. I could not eat or sleep last night for worrying about this wee dog. I bet this is not the first time this thug has abused animals. You can almost guarantee he has done it many times before. You know what they say, what goes around, comes around, let's hope so.
As for poor Major, my husband has just retired after 30 years in the police. He was totally shocked and disgusted when he came across this article months ago. He was a Sergeant and has been in charge of many stations and says the kennels should always be checked regularly as routine throughout the day. Especially, as there are so many changes of shifts. Heads should roll for this and he maintains the big chiefs are crapping themselves and basically stalling because they do not really know how to handle this one after the public outcry. Could be a while before they figure out what to do to keep the public sweet. Keep watching! Marian.
I was delighted to hear that they caught that b******! Throw the book at him - I hope it's b***dy War & Peace!!!!!
I am really glad the wee dog has been found and taken into safe hands. The imprint that is going to be left on that wee dog doesn't bear thinking about! I only hope kind handling and time will help it to regain it's trust in people again.
Glad that man has been caught.I hope that the wee spaniel recovers and gets a kind home. That poor child. Absent fathers? maybe better if fathers like that don't hang around. Eleanorxxxx

UPDATE Man appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a dog, following this appalling incident. He pled not guilty and trial has been set for next month.
