Dixie came to live with me in January. Tomorrow we will be taking him to his or ever home. This is when reality strikes home. I have only had Dixie on loan and he is not mine. Now, I am so glad for him and so sad for me. Why do I put myself through this? Well your guess is as good as mine! All I know is that I will continue to do this time and time again, because even though I break my heart I know two things. One- There is always some other sweet creature waiting for and needing a chance for love comfot and cuddles and two- I need to have a dog. Oh yes there is always a forever home waiting as well!
Dixie has been quirky, funny and an absolute darling and I have enjoyed every minute of him. I hope he has his happy ever after with his new family.
I will dry my tears and look forward to my next foster.

What a lovely post, and lucky Dixie to get such a good foster mum.  Also, the experience you have gained with different dogs makes you invaluable to understanding some of the dogs that have "issues".  Hope you enjoy your next foster as much as Dixie.smile

Fostering is extremely hard thing to do.  We used to foster mostly lurchers when we worked at Battersea Dogs Home and loved it.  We still keep in touch with a few of the dogs and their owners too!  It's so nice to see how well that they are thriving in their new homes and there is always another dog in need of a foster home to take their place on the sofa or bed!

Well done LesleyJane, you are doing a fantastic job of giving dogs like Dixie a chance to settle into home life and giving them a stable start to their new homes. Keep up the good work that you do. biggrin Nora

Thrilled to hear Dixie has a forever home, it may be a sad parting but at least you know he is going to a good life. GAL needs people like you and I'm sure it won't be long before another groo finds its way to your home.

Well done, Lesley Jane, for giving Dixie such a great start in finding his forever home!

I can imagine how sad you must be feeling, but another dog will be along soon who will need your care just as much as Dixie did. GAL could not rehome or rescue as many dogs without dedicated fosterers like you. All GAL fosterers are worth their weight in gold and I really admire them for what they do!

Hopefully you may catch up with Dixie at some point if his new owners keep in touch and come to some of the GAL events.

Christine
