Special Monthly Dog Walk - Glasgow Sunday 6th of May
Permalink Closed

Luck will have us as from April 7- May 7th is National Pet Month and the theme is "LOVE IS...." Since we are having our monthly dog walk I thought it only appropriate to broadcast around Scotland that "LOVE IS ... A HAPPILY HOMED HOUND!"

This walk will be special - with a luck of a few more volunteers I hope to have at least 10 of the homeless dogs from Eddie & Rachels come up to Strathclyde Park for a parade about the area!  The goal of National Pet Month is to promote responsible pet ownership and with this walk GAL can show that responsible pet owners receive plenty of love in exchange for being responsible!

We will take photo's of the event - so anyone with a foster dog are also more than welcomed to attend too! We have notified NPM of our event and hope to receive even more coverage of the event.

So for those that need details - here they are:

WHEN - SUNDAY, 6th of May
WHERE - Strathclyde Park in Glasgow. CHANGE OF VENUE !!! Due to major events this weekend - WE WILL DEPART FROM THE BOTHWELL PAVILLION CAR PARK!! Please make note of it - we will try to ensure signs are posted there.

TIME: 11AM

As usual there is no set plan for the day, however, we will have our information "boot" and I'll bring along some cake to celebrate the day. Our "In-Charge" person will be Lita Bannerman - you won't be able to miss her in the bright red bibs so please don't forget to say hello to her!

Anyone interested in helping with a homeless dog at the event - please email me at linda@gal.org.uk !!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Linda

Sharon the Bothwell Pavillion is at the far end of the park - you enter the park from the Raith Interchange roundabout - it is signposted off the M74 as you come from Glasgow towards Carlisle -   The pavillion is on the right hand side just past the Travel inn as you enter the park.

So basically you take the turning off the M74 before the one you would normally take for Motherwell.

See you there!

What a start to our Special monthly dog walk;  around 11.00am the heavens opened at it poured with rain then it pelted hail stones.  Those who had arrived sheltered in their cars till it went off.  Luckily that wasn't too long, and it stayed dry for most of the walk wink.gif

As it is National Pet Month, about 12 homeless/fostered hounds were brought along and enjoyed their outing.   smile.gif

We had several people interested in adopting, along with a couple of folk interested in fostering and volunteering.

Here's some pics:-

Looks like everyone had a great time despite the rain. Its good so many homeless dogs got the chance to get out and be seen. I see Millie's brother Jamie was there, i so wish i had a bigger house wink.gif

The GAL volunteers always look so smart in their overalls and its clear who they are.  smile.gif

Hi Anne,  Sorry to disappoint, but I've just added in some more names to the photos.  Pilgrim is owned by Denise.

Looks like a great turn out.  Some of the homeless dogs will be exhausted as we had several of the same ones at the 3 Mile Vet fundraising event the previous day and they did a 3 mile sponsored walk.  Three miles is not much I know - but by the end of it several of them were really dragging their heels: Tommy, Ollie, Roman, Jamie, Joey and several others!!

I had Ollie with me on Saturday and by the end of the walk I thought I was going to have to get a trolley for him!  biggrin

Lesley I bet the kennels were very quiet last night - just the sound of gentle snoring coming from the kennels!!sleep.gif

Thanks to everyone who bought from the shop yesterday - raincoats (for some reason?) were the main item of interest.biggrin

Hello everyone and again, sorry for the delay in thanking all who came and walked dogs! What a day! Althought it started out well - got up early and made some yummy gingerbread cake. Unfortunately, Bandit too thought it was yummy. When he hoped into my car he made a straight dive into the cake (literally), which was in the front seat! I wish I had thougth about taking a photo of him - his face and muzzle completely covered in frosting!! So sorry Sharon & crew - I will get another cake to you soon - probably at the pre marathon meeting!

At any rate - all my lovely posters for the event stayed dry in the car! Unlike myself who got out of the car without wet slickers or umbrella! Still it was so lovely to see so many homeless dogs out and about. I hope to do that every month during the summer as this is the perfect time to show them off!

Again - thanks to all the volunteers who came and walked dogs!! Hope to see you at the next event!

Linda
