Millie musn't be a full greyhound, either that or an she's abnormal expample of the breed! If your grey/lurcher was about 6 metres away from a wild rabbit and off lead, what would he/she do? Last night i was at Silverknowes/Crammond with my dogs and there were loads of rabbits munching on grass along the edge of the wooded area. Usually Millie and Eva like to go in and out woods looking for rabbits. There was a one rabbit, metres away from Millie and she just stood looking at it!! She could have almost lept forward and grabbed it but she didn't I said to my friend, "If that moves, she'll grab it" - so i shouted on her, thinking i cant stand here all night, and she came running back over to me when called and ignored the rabbit! How many hounds would do that? Meanwhile Willow is doing backflips on the end of his lead (+muzzled) trying to get to the rabbit Really wish i'd had my camera handy as i was even amazed she didn't touch it I knew she was a gentle dog but thats just proved it to me what a gentle soul she is
Unless the rabbit wasn't moving enough, but then, that close she would also be able to smell the rabbit, so it does seem odd, as well as the fact she did not get excited via Willow! It's nice when they surprise you in a good way!
Pearly chased five deer this morning - went missing for a couple of mins then came back all smiles. Little b****r doesn't respond to anything when on the chase. She's a wee hunting demon.
Exceedingly lucky rabbit!!!!!!! It always surprises me how close to cats Tilly gets sometimes and does not see them as they are not moving. It does make you question the term Sighthound sometimes!! She obviously smells them but can't see them - she get's very frustrated and then her cat radar goes on full!!!
Millie could cleary see this rabbit although it was still, she was standing staring at it. It just amazes me that she never grabbed it, i know Willow would have had he got close enough
One of the strangest sights I ever saw was Beth, an ex-racing greyhound, standing beside her owner whilst he was feeding rabbits. Ben stays in the Lodge house at Balloch Park and there are loads of rabbits around his house and as they visit him daily they are fairly tame. I couldn't believe that Beth didn't flinch even though they were hopping around her.
