I've been asked to change my avatar cos it's offensive......so I though I'd put it to the vote..

post below with your preferences...

Option 1. THE DEVIL - actually this was taken at a GAL fundraiser last year on Halloween, lots of money raised for GAL that day.

Option 2. CAKES - a nice picture of some muffins.

Option 3. DIONE - a moon of Saturn.

Option 4. VIEW - the view from our house.

reply to this post with your votes!..

Dave, I quite like the devil one, it reminds me of that episode of Bagpuss where he gets really angry because the mice just won't stop singing "We will fix it", turns evil, destroys the mouse organ and floors Professor Yaffel with a round-house kick.

But then you can't beat a good Muffin...

LOL Phil, a good sense of humour.
I like the 'view from the house', but then I see it everyday.   It such an open outlook, and if everyone in GAL had the same view, it would be like them all living in our house.hmm

Option 2 : I find the muffins highly offensive as I am on weigh****chers and seeing cakes on your avatar every day would do me no good at all.

Option 3: the moon of saturn, nice picture but a bit boring for an avatar don't you think?

Option 4: Can I come and live at your house? That view is lovely, but would only serve to make me jealous that you get to wake up to that view every morning.

I vote Option 1! evileye.gif

EDIT: hehe it took me ages to work out what on earth the sweary word could be in weight watchers! biggrin.gif

I had always thought it was your own "personal" avatar so does that not mean you can have it as whatever you like? blankstare.gif

Dave I was only kidding when I said your Avatar was scaring my kids......you do that without the mask LOL wink

I think the Devil should stay. If we are all going to start being told what we can and can't have as our personal tag then whats the feckin point of a Forum, what next!!!

Plus I agree with CJ the cakes aint fair to us who are trying ashamed to lose weight, the moon is far to boring and well the view from your house is just showing off wink

I vote the Devil stays.

I'm changing my vote, I think Dave should use the less-scary, Vanilla Bagpuss instead...

Bagpuss.jpg

(Actually, thinking on, this is probably a raspberry-ripple Bagpuss, perhaps even Neapolitan)

I find the one of your open aspect house more offensive because I'm green with envy!!wink

Muffins are ok but a roll and sausage would have been better Dawn!  I do like those trifles though!

Moon thing is dull in my opinion.

I say keep the devil!!  Where's the harm.  Its not like its a political statement or something.
I love devils I do.

The mask is fine with me, seeing cakes would just make me eat more, the planet thing is very dull and as for the view, well it's fab, but it could tempt people to post a nice view, and claim it was from their house, when it wasn'tbiggrin I'm not trying to say anyone would tell porkies on this forum, but they could be tempted.wink.gif I would like to see a view from everyones house,(not because I'm some sort of perv), it would show the variety of homes hounds get to live in, and let people see that they don't have to stay in the countryside to own a hound. Baillie the grey next door, spends half his time in the centre of Edinburgh and the rest of the time out here in the sticks. He looks at home in both places.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if I am on the right site! I cannot believe the pettyness that appears to have decended since I was last on here. There are posts about this and posts about that and censored posts.

Can someone explain what is going on because I am at a complete loss and wonder what I have missed. Have the government taken over this site and insisted on political correctness or what?

I thought this was somewhere where we could all take off our masks and be ourselves without worrying about upseting others.....

Dave as far as I am concerned you are the person I associate most with Gal (has anyone else worked so long and hard to find homes for quite so many dogs?)and to be quite honest whatever you want as your avatar is fine with me. I had not realised that it was not a picture of your true likeness(lol)

Em (?) still puzzled that the dogs seem to be taking second place to some kind of childish schoolyard squabble

Muffins - not good for someone with a sweet tooth - too tempting.  ashamed

Moon - BORING.yawn

Garden view - nice but not as amusing as the devil picture.  smile

I'd stick with the devil, Dave! After all, you're the one that we know! Muffins don't make you immediately spring to my mind, and maybe Titan would have been more exciting to look at that than Dione as one of Saturn's moons. The idyllic view from your house is gorgeous and it would annoy me every time you posted on the forum. So for me, devil it is!

Honestly - I don't know!  What's wrong with having a picture of one of your dogs on the forum (or am I being too old fashioned now!?? wink). Ivor looks like a good candidate after being so brave the other day-

I vote for brave Ivor - anyone else??? biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I missed the thread that was taken off but is apparently going to be put back on so I am a bit in the dark about this whole situation. I do however think this avatar nonsense is just ridiculous. I just don't understand how a picture of someone dressed as a devil, whether for a charity event or not, can be seen as offensive. An avatar is a personal choice and unless it is something like a picture of hitler or a big willy, which might offend, then I don't see what the problem is. It obviously hit a nerve and made whoever asked for it to be removed feel defensive, but I think offensive is the wrong word as it quite obviously, from the voting response, offends no-one.

Dave asked for an opinion and many people have given theirs; in good fun I would have said.

People have a right to object to or comment on anything to do with the forum or indeed GAL itself.  So it's unfair to then pick on them for making a stand on something they believe is offensive.  We all are entitled to our opinions on that score.

Dave chose to make the request to remove it a public one  - so that is his decision and so he must be happy to take the responses that he gets as a result of that action.

I also gave my opinion in good fun as you say, however the more and more I think about this the less fun I find it. I decided to stop hiding behind the humour and say exactly how I feel. Of course I'd rather see a pile of cakes or a adorable greyhound as an avatar, however that is not the point, lets face it we are not voting for which avatar we like best we are voting to say whether we think the request was unreasonable and I think its pretty obvious the majority of people on here do think it was unreasonable. The point is that it is up to Dave to choose what he wants as his avatar.

I don't believe I have picked on anyone, I don't even know who they are. I just gave my opinion and I stand by it.

"Dave chose to make the request to remove it a public one - so that is his decision and so he must be happy to take the responses that he gets as a result of that action."

Dave is not responsible for my response or opinion. They are my opinions and as you said, I am entitled to them.

I'm baffled by this statement "So its unfair to then pick on them for making a stand on something they believe is offensive"

I dont agree that anyone is being picked on for taking a stand on something they believe is offensive.   I do however think its obvious by the comments posted, that everyone agrees people have the right to object or comment, but for such a trivial matter to be taken so seriously, as to ask Dave to remove is avatar, is what most find astonishing and if anyone is being picked on, targeted, singled out, then its Dave.

GAL is in the business of saving the lifes of the beautiful breed of dog, who would otherwise die and given the chance 'to win the race for life', so perhaps its time this thread is closed and whoever was offended should take time to reflect on issues that are really offensive, like dogs being PTS for no good reason. That is offensive.

Well Said Dawn, Emma and CJ. I totally agree with all your points. There seems to be alot going on that we (meer members) are not aware of but as we all agree its not about who said what or who supports who ITS ABOUT THE DOGS. Lets hope this can all be sorted out and we can all get back focused on the important things THE DOGS.

A lot of us would like Dave back, but thats for Dave and the committee to decide.

I also come on the forum for fun and advice and to unwind at the end of a stressful day. As I've said before you can't see someones face or hear their tone of voice on a post so offence can be taken where none meant. At the end of the day we are all adults and for the sake of the dogs we need to act like them.

Lorna, Siouxsie and Linda none of us grudge you your moderator jobs. It can't be easy sometimes, your damed if you do and your damed if you don't.
