Quick pic of Flash's new companion. I can see that blue eye is going to cause me some red eye retouching problems in pics.
We brought her home and left her in the car while we brought Flash out to take them for a walk together. Hmmm he came out of the house, saw Hazel in the car and his tail was wagging like anything. Does he remember her from Sunday? Anyway only thing that was an issue between them is that I had to tell them off for trying to play running games in the house. So far so good.
She is a bit stubborn at times on the lead and is wary of things particularly cars on the road but she seems a sensible dog and so I just gave her a sort of "flooding" experience taking her up the main road with lorries etc and she wasn't too bad at all. Thanks goodness....she doesn't seem to be nervous and silly just a bit wary.
Snappiness?....so far seems fine...she wasn't instantly friendly but I lay on the floor and she came over and licked me and lay down beside me and Flash came over and we all had a "love in" So...next stage is my friend is coming over to see if Hazel barks at visitors etc. Love to all will take better pics later on Eleanor, Flash and Hazel xxxxxxx

OMG cannot believe how similar bella and hazel are. We will definently need to get them together sometime. I'll post a picture of bella to show you the likeness.
Hazel is now called Hazelnutter.....dogs' home just saw "snappy".She is a sweetie pie with women.... very very affectionate to women but she is wary of men and downright aggressive if a group of people walk towards her. Out on the end of an eight foot lead, puffed up to her full height and girth like a bull terrier and talk about swearing and threatening in dog language? I did not think that I would see a female lurcher exhibit anything like that behaviour.
On saying that she is very beautiful, sensitive and intelligent and Flash seems to like her so much that he spent his time beside the river this evening trying to impress her ...strutting about then running about like a madman grinning and flaunting his impressive high speed turns. I think that he is in love.
Yes Hazel might be a bit of a challenge but the main thing for me is that Flash seems to think that she is for "Him" rather than an other dog for me. In an ideal world that is the way that I hoped things would be. Love to all... I am a very happy bunny tonight Eleanorxxxxxxx

What a beautiful little lady. She sounds lovely - but very much like Millie to begin with, she was very wary of men to begin with. Glad Flash is happy with his new girl.
Hazel's gorgeous, Eleanor! And so is Bella - they look so alike. Bella's face and colouring looks so much like Dixie, but Bella is much taller by the looks of things.
I'm delighted that Flash has taken to Hazel the way he has! And I'm sure Hazel will gain confidence with you when she meets men and large groups of people. No wonder you're so happy - she's lovely!
Flash and his "Big Woman" Fingers crossed folks all seems to be going very well. For a dog that the dogs' home thought hadn't been in a house before Hazel has been great. Was clean in the house overnight, doesn't seem to be destructive and she has lost all wariness of Tom. She had a peculiar fear of our cups and plates yesterday but seems to have lost that today. Went for a walk and after a bit of wandering about and a bit of pulling she settled down and walked fine on the lead beside Flash. She still has a wariness about cars but didn't dig her heels in and refuse to move as she tried to do yesterday. She strode along with just a bit of liplicking at times and the occasional hesitation but she bit the bullet and kept going. I bit the bullet myself and when we came back from our walk when she and Flash seemed settled I went out of the house and drove about for twenty minutes. Came back and the pair of them did me the curtesy of at least opening their eyes and giving me a tiny welcome back
Postman has just been and put some letters through the door. Dogs didn't move Oh joy I hope that continues. If Hazel ever wakens up I will give her a measure to see what height she is.She had an exciting day yesterday I think that she is worn out. I do love her having so much collie in her. I adore gsds and lurchers but feel a bit more confident in coping with collie quirks. Stands to reason I suppose as on and off I have been around collies since I was about 3years old . I am such a very very happy bunny today no doubt we may have the odd setback as time goes on but today is wonderful.
Love to all Eleanor, Flash and Hazel xxx

Oops just found this thread after posting in the previous one! I love the last photo of flash and hazel on the setee. Really enjoying your updates, hope you have a great day.
Hazel coming on in leaps and bounds. Tom walked her on lead tonight along the river and I hung back having some quality time with Flash. Tom can walk a lot quicker than I can and moving at a quicker pace past men with dogs and fishing rods etc seemed to keep her mind on the job and she trotted along nicely. I was watching from a distance and was shouting instructions.Bit of the sergeant major in me methinks . On a slower pace on the way back she kept up the good work and a man's wsd growled at her and she just looked at it. Needless to say when the wsd reached Flash and myself it didn't growl at him.
Tom is working on Saturday but if he can manage to get home by lunchtime we will try and get to Edinburgh for the show even if it is just for a short time. I would like to see how Hazel gets on with lots of people and dogs around her. Eleanorxxxxx

They make a lovely couple on the couch I hope they make it to the show on Saturday, it would be great to see them in the flesh/fur I hope to bring nextdoors greyhound to keep Cara company while I'm there. Anne

Christine
They are very alike aswell. All lovely dogs. It would be great if hazel could go to the dog show on saturday as I will be there with Bella aswell. Will you and Dixie be at the Edinburgh show on saturday Christine?? I will always remember the first day I got my dogs I was a nevervous wreck! When Bella came to stay, Judy kept snapping and growling at her. I kept them in seperate rooms at all times for 2 days then by the third my mum just let them out and left them too it. Seems as though you they are going to be great buddies (playing and sleeping). Best of luck, keep us updated on progress cause I'm very nossey.
That's a great photo of Flash and Hazel on the couch. She's settled in so well with you, Tom and Flash.
Diane - sadly Vegas, Dixie and me won't be at the Hot Dog Show on Saturday as hubby is working and he's the driver! I really hope to catch up with you all at an event at some point, though.
Hope you all have a great time and take plenty photos when you're there!
Sorry you won't make the show Christine but I am not sure if we will make it either. See men and their jobs? Stripped out Hazels loose undercoat and as she had no exercise for a month in the dogs' home as nobody had the time to try and get her to walk on the lead etc what with the grooming and more exercise she is losing that bear like look and is starting to look a bit more svelt. Was out with her and Flash for two hours this morning. Down the road into the town to get her more used to cars and such was my confidence her I left off the muzzle and walked through the town. Our town is nice and quiet in the morning. I went to the pet shop and the lady that owns it who is a rottie person? She wasn't busy and so I called to her and she came out I explained about Hazel and so she ran her hands over her and ended up sitting on the shop door step giving her cuddles and kisses. Another lady appeared and Hazel was fine. I then moved onto men explaining that she might have a problem with them and so they just talked to her and gave her a little stroke....nothing too adventurous . In the end I was walking up and down the high street with her padding along beside me looking neither right nor left with the loop of the lead just held by my finger.
Can't say fairer than that and so we walked home. I would love to phone the dogs home to tell the staff that she is nothing like the dog that walked out of there on Wed morning ...but I wont tempt fate Love to all Eleanorxxxxxx

Eleanor, I'm so happy that Hazel has found her way to you. She's clearly landed on her feet because your home sounds like precisely the environment that she should be in. It's great to hear that Flash is so besotted with her. Here's to Hazel settling in well over the coming weeks, and to many happy time together.
Fiona
ps: don't forget to say hello at the show tomorrow so I can admire your pooches in person! I'll be the judge's helper.
So lovely to see Hazel in a home. I last saw her through bars at SPCA, Bothwell Bridge.
Joyce you'll understand then how I couldn't resist her Fiona I hope that we manage to get to the show even just for a short time as it would be an ideal opportunity to extend Hazel's socialisation process. I want to get her out and about as much as I can and expose her to more and more stuff to see if I can manage to find any major flaw in her temperament. Fingers and toes crossed that we can make it on Sat. Eleanorxxxxx

Hazel did so well on Sat at Holyrood that on Sun she got off lead on a deserted Prestwick beach. Raced around and played very rough games with Flash, chased seagulls and got a ducking in the sea as they flew off over the water. I had taught her what the word "Come" meant but just used it when she was wandering about with no distractions and she was fine ..quite happy to return. She'll be back on lead through the week and hopefully if the weather isn't too bad and we can get the beach deserted again she will get another off lead run on the beach next weekend. Plane took off from the airport with a massive din but she took it in her stride and merely stood still and listened. Eleanorxxxxx

For once Hazel stays asleep when my camera makes a noise when I turn it on. Hazel seems so voice sensitive that she is an absolute joy to walk on lead. Every day we pass a fence with a dog barking and lunging at it and the first time it happened she was out on the end of the lead with the tail up but one firm "No" and a "Good girl" when she relaxed was the end of that issue. I just tell her that she is a good girl when the dog starts up and she ignores it. Leo my late lamented darling.....if you are watching down on us why weren't you like that ? The phrase ignore bad behaviour and praise good behaviour was a bit of a non event with Leo at times as on some issues there was zero good behaviour to praise Eleanorxxxxx

Aaww Eleanor, that is so good, it brings a lump to your throat. You must be so chuffed. It's such a good feeling, rescuing a poor wee soul like that and knowing that you have done so much good. Marian.

Marian, I feel blessed to have her.I had dismissed her a lurcher "Super bitch" well out of my league before I found out that the dogs' home had rated her a bit problematic.
Today due a cut in my steroid dose after having had Flash and Hazel out training in the morning and afternoon I felt terribly tired and went for a lie down upstairs. Flash knows these tired moments and he came up and lay beside me. After about half an hour Hazel came upstairs and she did that collie/wolf like ingratiating thing ..crouchy wiggly body and as she sneaked up on the bed beside us doing the drawn back "smile" that looks really scary if you don't know "smile" then she nuzzled my face with the toothy smile before settling down to sleep with her head on my leg.
That did bring a lump to my throat. After just a week she really has become "Family". Eleanorxxxxxx
