I would like to thank you all for the great advice, lovely pictures, friendship and stories that have made me cry in sadness and joy.. I've been quiet for a while but hope GAL continues to raise awareness and re-home greyhounds for years to come!!
Speedy and I are leaving Scotland on 25th July for pastures new.. We are moving to Weston Super Mare (south of Bristol) to a house with a great garden for Speedy Speedy (so fast they named him twice) which is less than half a mile from a stonking dog friendly beach.
I seem to have been packing boxes for weeks but have just about stopped now as I don't want to freak Speedy and the cats. They will all go into kennels for the last few days so the disruption isn't too great, luckily Speedy loves the kennels, the cats are indifferent to most things...
We had a lovely time at the Hot Dog show on Saturday as it made a great change from last minute DIY and packing. Speedy came first in the under 3 class which made up for getting cold and soaked. He is so special to me and I wouldn't have believed how he has changed my life since I got him, I have also met some truely lovely people. I must have changed his life too as he is no longer the terrified, antisocial nutter he was, a more devoted dog I have never had!
It's with a funny mixture of sadness and joy that I leave Edinburgh, I will miss great friends and their dogs - but not the Ex! We leave on 25th July and move into the new place on 27th. I start the new job on 6th August so have time to unpack and settle the animals. Speedy is coming to work with me so no worries there.
When we get settled in W-S-M I have promised Speedy a play mate.. I lost Smokey-cat (RIP) in March so we have a vacancy... Speedy will have full approval though.. No more cats - just a lovely, laidback, lean, long legged, loopy, long-dog!
First of all, I want to wish you all the best in your new job, new house, new life down in WSM. It sounds wonderful - with plenty space for you and your dogs and cats to enjoy! And a beach nearby too - how lucky can you get!
I'm sure you'll find a great new pal for Speedy down there too. Please look in on the forum now and then - we have lots of people from south of the border who contribute. I suppose what I'm saying is that borders don't matter - it's our love of the dogs we have and want to rescue that's important!
Hope your move down south goes smoothly. Let us know how you get on!
Hi Claire, It was lovely to meet you and Speedy on Saturday. I can only echo what Christine says. Heaps of best wishes for your new home and job. You can keep up with GAL on the forum and do let us know how you get on in your new life. Eleanor Flash and Hazelxxxxx

Nice to hear from you again - even if it is sad news. I hope you have a safe, quick and stress free move. I'm sure Speedy will love his new home - they adapt well as long as the people they love are there with them.
Best of luck with the new job and, as the others said, please don't lose touch with us. When you get Speedy his new pal, it is mandatory that you post photos of them.
Good luck with your move to your new life. Enjoy the beach and the weather (we just moved in reverse eighteen months ago). Im sure you'll have a great time in your new home.
Good luck Claire, I hope you, Speedy and co settle into your new home quickly. Please keep in touch on the forum and let us know how you and your "champion showdog" are getting on. Marie
Good luck in your new job and new place. If I ever have to move far away I fully intend to keep following the forum - so please please keep us up to date on how Speedy settles and on your eventual new arrival!
Thanks guys. I am getting sooo nervous about this move. I went to the V - E - T today and got some knockout pills for the cats. Foxy is a Somali "posh cat" and howls like a banshee in the car, Dotty isn't so bad and Speedy is a little star in "his" car. I feel really cruel drugging the cats but even a half hour drive to the cattery makes me want to chuck Foxy out the window.. I am doing the drive to W-S-M over 2 days but the first day is going to take at least 5 hours and much as I love Fox that is just too long for the amount of noise he makes.
Today I took down 3 light fittings, I still have another 9 to do but there is only so long I can spend on a ladder with no blood supply going to my hands... The new house is another wreck but at least it has heating - unlike this one when I bought it last January - brrrr! Speedy will adore the garden and the fact it has the most revolting green swirly carpet as he's not fan of my wooden floors.. The carpet aint staying for long but I think we will eventually have new carpet in most of the house - just for him!

I sympathise Claire my girl Toots used to screech like a wailing baby when in the car, and had a particularly ear piercing yowl which could make your head explode. Once when I was moving house I got a sedative from the vet. Unfortunately it didn't knock her out, it just made her appear drunk and even more grouchy. For the next two days I had to fight back laughter as she tried to jump onto furniture and kept misjudging and falling off, and walking into doors, poor thing. I never drugged her again Marie

Ooh Marie! That sound horrid!
The Vet told me that they have recently changed the drugs they use on cats. She says that the old pills used to make them groggy and disorientated and then the cats freaked as they couldn't cope with travelling and feeling wierd.
The pills she has given me will apparently knock them out for 3 hours and they will be less disorientated like that. I really hope that is the case..
Hello, Good luck in your new life & i'm sure Speedy will enjoy life being able to go on the beach constantly. A new companion for Speedy will be nice too.
Keep in touch with the forum once you are settled.
Sally
