We decided 2 weeks ago to adopt a pal for Jack. I have wanted another dog for a long time now and Hubby finally agreed it would be lovely!! So, the search began! Had to be cat friendly. I have found our new family member. If you log onto www.kerrygreyhounds.co.uk you will see her. Her name is Daphne!! (at the moment!!) She is arriving in Norfolk this Saturday and we will pick her up, all being well, on Tuesday. It involves an overnight stay and lots of mileage, but we don't care and are really looking forward to this special lady coming home with us. There is a prosecution pending over her owner. She will need lots of love and care when she gets here. Poor wee soul, can't wait to shower her with love!! Jack will love her too, he loves everything he meets!! The most gentle dog in the world. Anyway, will keep you all posted next week. We'll be leaving for our trip on Monday.
Daphne is gorgeous but does look like she is going to need lots and lots of love. Poor thing has obviously had a hard time. No doubt you and Jack are just the thing for her! Good luck and can't wait to hear all about your journey back with her and her future progress.
PS. I take it you have never met her before? What made you decide she was the one? I'm asking because I'm nosey and love to hear how people find their special dog!
I know Alexis, this sounds crazy, I have never met her before. Was searching for a cat friendly female hound and there was nothing in Scotland at all. Saw Daphne on the Irish site and instantly knew she was the one for me. We have rescued a few cruelty cases before from the S.S.P.C.A, so know the commitment and work involved bringing these animals back to trusting people again. It is so satisfying! Kerry Greyhounds contacted Greyhound Rescue Scotland, from where we homed Jack. They were more than happy with my last home check and reference, and were content to home Daphne to us on that basis. Quite excited about the whole prospect !! Marian.
That's great Kerry Greyhounds were able to use your previous info - I would never have thought of that You do get such a sense of achievement when you see the progress made with a dog. I have to admit that I would have been drawn to Daphne too, looking at the site - she has such soulful eyes and a coat you can just tell will be a beautiful grey blue colour. Thanks for filling me in and I can't wait to hear more!
Daphne looks like a lovely bitch and is lucky to have found a home with you. Safe journey on Tues and of course keep us posted about the adventures that she will have with Jack and of course...pics pics pics. Lots of best wishes Eleanor Flash and Hazelxxxxxx

My heart just melted when I looked at her picture, she looks so forlong and her body pressed in tight to the handler. I cannot blame you for falling for her.In time with care and love I am sure she will turn into a swan. Have a safe trip and bring your girl back to her forever home where she can blossom. Nora

I can see why you wanted her, she has just got 'the look' I agree it's strange to want a dog you've never met, I've just done the same thing I hope all goes well for her trip home and please post pics asap.
No wonder you fell in love with her - one look and I just wanted to take care of her and let her know that not everyone is as cruel as the disgusting excuse for an owner that she has obviously had - lots and lots of luck with her.
Really looking forward to seeing lots of pics and hearing how she settle's in
Well the good news is, that Daphne arrived safe and well to the U.K from Ireland on Saturday. They bring over a few dogs at a time, the only way to get most of them homed is to move them to the U.K. Most Irish people do not look upon Greyhounds as pets, so they have great difficulty homing in Ireland. I spoke to Jill the re-homing coordinator in Norfolk and she said she is not as nervous or scared as she once was. She tells me Daphne is very gentle and friendly. Seemingly, Amanda the boss in Ireland has been working with her and Daph has made great progress.
Now for the surprise!!!!! Daphne is being fostered in Norfolk by a lady called Sue. Sue e-mailed a picture of her this morning. She is not BLUE !!! She is brindle and white!! Apparently, the picture taken on the Kerry Greyhound website is very poor and taken in a bad light. Lots of thoughts had gone through my head when I saw the picture of her this morning. I thought they had given me the wrong dog, or Sue had taken a picture of the wrong dog. I must admit I was shocked, I just thought she was blue!! However, David and I have studied the pictures on the website and the e-mailed one this morning and we are satisfied it is the same dog!! We can make out the markings on her face, and it is her. It does not matter to me one little bit that she is not blue. I was just expecting her to be BLUE !!! Jill has assured me that it is Daphne, and she was never blue, just a bad picture. Of course David thinks this is hilarious, we both thinking she was blue and telling everybody we are getting a blue dog!!! Everybody else also agrees she looks blue on the web pics. So folks, when I start posting pictures at the end of the week, you will not be looking for a blue dog will you??? I promise you, I am not telling any porkies, this is the same dog I am homing on the Kerry website, she is just not BLUE !! Anyway, car is all packed and ready to go. We leave early tomorrow morning. Staying in a dog friendly Guest House Mon night and then head for home on Tues morning. I will be going to Sue the foster ladies home to see her when we arrive on Mon, Introduce the two dogs and take them for a walk. We will leave Daph at Sue's on the Mon night in case she was to soil the Guest House, She's straight out of kennels. On Tues morning the dogs will meet again, before our long drive home. Everybody agrees that we will know very quickly if they are going to get on. At least with our " doggy meetings" planned, the dogs will not be strangers for the journey home. Fingers crossed it all goes well and they love each other!! So far to go if it goes wrong. We must be mad!!!! I really can't wait to bring her home. I love her already and I have never met her!! AND SHE IS NOT BLUE !!!! BUT IT IS DAPH !! Speak on Wed. Marian.
Good luck, have a safe journey, I hope all goes well with the first meeting I'm sure they will love each other, looking forward to seeing the pictures of your not so BLUE Daphne

ROLL ON MARCH
She did look blue in the photo on the website - I'd have said that she was. Maybe she was needing a bath. Not to worry - she's very pretty regardless of colour!
You must really be looking forward to getting her settled at home. I do hope that everything went well with the first meeting.
Congratulations and well done, likewise I will watch with interest her progress with you over the next few months (I have tried to attach little clapping person to this but it didn't copy!!)
