Allergies and hounds
Permalink Closed

Hello,

Some sad news, unfotunately my hubby has been developing an allergy to our dogs and we'll have to part with them. Loking back over the last couple of years he's been showing symptoms since we got the 1st one from gal, but thought it was just hayfever. Beeing a man it's taken some time for him to actually goto the gp, then when the treatment didn't work he didn't go back!

Unfurtunately since moving from a house to a flat in Feb its gotten much worse to the point where he now has severe respitory reaction to them and is on steriod inhalers. We've spoken to gal, but as always there are more hounds needing homes than there are folk to take them, so they're struggling to find somewhere for them. So thought I'd try a more direct approach here - so if anyone would like to give a loving home to one/two hounds please get in touch. Some details:

Both neutered/vaccinated/kennel coughed etc, in good health, house trained, and generally obedient (sit/stay/bed etc).

Ruby - age 5, red with white chest. Good with other dogs (large & small), but definately likes to be the boss. not cat safe, has been fine with visiting kids although has never lived with any. Very affectionate to people (especially those with biscuits). Ruby is a confident, outgoing and generally curious dog who lives to sniff.

Bob - age 6, blue with white chest. Fine with large dogs (not small). Very obedient and excellent on lead (stays very close and never pulls). Generally shy around strangers, but very affectionate when he gets to know you. He's generally scared of kids (because he doesn't like sudden noises), although would be fine with bigger ones. We always walk him muzzled, as he shows great interest in small dogs when they run. (but will run away if they bark!)

Would prefer to home together, but will seperate if its the only way. Ruby is fine on her own, we got Bob as a second dog, so don't know how he would be as an only dog. Probably best if he has a doggy companion though as he's fairly shy and tends to follow Ruby's lead.

I'll try and post some more pictures later.

p.s. this post is not intended in any way to bypass normal GAL homing procedures. Any re-homing of these dogs will include liason with GAL ....................

Oh that is so sad.  I know you will have tried the usual things like sticking the other half on pyraton.  I know it works for a friend of ours....

Thanks for all the sympathies folks. tandemsandy - nope unfortunately anti-histamines only slightly aliviate the eyes/nose symptoms for him, but not the main chest problems he's having. Says he feels as if he's drowning and can't breathe.
