A holiday and a year of Zak reflection
Permalink Closed

Well we are all just back from our holiday, and I wish I was still on holiday. We had a great time, though the dogs might tell you that we walked too far.We went to cousin Alex's wedding and the dress I made her went down well (I may be persuaded to post dress pictures and details later). The dogs behaved well for my sister and Andy allowing us to concentrate on enjoying the wedding.

On the Sunday we went to the Ashbourne Animal Welfare show and Zak got third in best male, we bought lots of dog treats and had a great time. The weather was even good enough that I got sunburnt. We also went to the Bakewell agricultural show and managed to see the Wolfhound judging as well as meeting another wolfhound deerhound cross.Zak thought that she was wonderful, he must like big girls. There were loads of stalls and it was mobbed but both dogs behaved very well and had a great time as loads of people stopped to speak to them.Tara also got a shot in a Nissan Navara pickup as I keep wondering if we need something like that for travelling with large dogs.

The rest of the time was spent walking and visiting historic sites as well as a wonderful tram museum that lets you ride around in antique trams (the dogs to, as it is very dog friendly). We also went down a cave and sat outside teashops eating cream teas. The cave was funny as it was the sight hound tour as our group included our pair a pair of large rescue greyhounds and a lovely little dark brindle whippet.Zak was very keen on the little whippet boy, but his favourite thing was sneaking up behind young ladies and nosing them in the bottom.Thankfully none of them minded.

The Wednesday of the holiday was also a special date for Zak as that was a year from when we got him.Somehow it feels longer as he has settled into the family as if he has always been there. He is very affectionate and loves his cuddles especially Sunday mornings when he and Tara get to join me in bed while I drink my tea and read a book.It was hard work to start with but it all turned out well and we wouldn't change him.

I have a couple of photos here, and more will follow when I get round to going through them all.

Good grief - is that a year already!  hmm  It doesn't seem like five minutes ago that I was cuddling him through the bars of the kennel at Langbank.  I still think he's an absolute stunner!  awwaww

Lovely pictures of the two of them - can't wait to see the rest.  biggrin

Lovely pics of Zak and Tara.  I also, can't believe it is a year since you fostered Zak either. I had just joined the forum then myself, after adopting Jack. I remember reading all you foster updates about ( problem!)  Zak.  Gosh, how he has come on since then. You have done wonders with him.

Great photos of Zak and Tara, Claire! So glad you enjoyed your holiday - sounds like you all had a wonderful time and of course the dogs would lap up all the attention they were getting. I too can't believe it's a year since you brought Zak home with you - you and Graham have done wonders with the handsome lad. Well done!

What lovely pictures of your two.

Zak's markings on his face are just beautiful and his ears look really comical.

Good luck for the next 12 months.
