We went high up into the Angus Glens today and it was just beautiful (forgot camera..d-oh!) we walked for 3hrs and had lunch high up in the hills..Jake got down for periods on the walk and put in the rucksack when he was tired! He had a ball...what an adventure..he was in water, playing catch with the others and he 'helped' with the lunch!!! He was much admired by all who met him..he is a real 'babe' magnet..the second he spots the ladies he does his typically male 'ooooo...arent i cute face' gets picked up and cuddled and nuzzles himself right in! He slept all the way home, in his box on the back seat, legs askew and snoring his head off..obviously too much excitement for one day! Tomorrow we are going to the Countryside Festival at Glamis where undoubtedly he will get lots MORE cuddles and attention. Have a great week-end whatever you are doing.
Sounds like Jake had a great day out. Aargh....I have had a break from the computer for a couple of days.....wish I hadn't as we were going to go to Glamis but at the last minute changed our minds and went down to Lindisfarne for the day....chasing the sun on the east coast. yes Flash and Hazel would have chosen four hours chasing about on Lindisfarne over being on lead at Glamis....but I would love to have met Jake. Ill wind....blew most of the money that I had been prepared to spend on the stalls at Glamis on three collars from GAL at the walk at Strathclyde park today . Lovely to read about Jake in the rucksack...I used to have a very tiny "fairy"papillion that mucked in as much as she could with the the big dogs but was oh so happy to travel in a rucksack when she got a bit tired. puppies or toy dogs that are happy to travel in rucksacks are brilliant. Well, Jake had a fabby day at Glamis, he was much admired, he met the Foxhounds, watched a pipe band, saw horses etc etc..but poor Jack..there was terrier racing as usual and this being Jack's favouriteness thing in the world he was raring to go..unfortunately the working terriers were being allowed to race with peoples' 'pets' - none of the racers wear muzzles and Jack got himself nailed..three bite wounds to his front leg, one over his shoulder, one in his neck and one full thickness bite to his foot..poor soul, i got him patched up with the help of a Paramedic at the show and got him home and he is shaved, drugged up and sleeping now. Poor boy, he didnt stand a chance, this dog went all out for him and it took what seemed like an age for the men to get the dog off him. Did it make him want to stop...errr....no..the dog eventually was made to let go and Jack shot back and reloaded himself in the trap! What a boy! He is very sore now however and i'm hoping the Arnica will prevent some of the swelling, he is also limping badly. Healing thoughts for poor Jack..please.
Och, poor Jack, what a shame. That sounds like very nasty bites he's had. At least he tried to stand up for himself. That would have taken the shine off your day. Hope he is better soon. Marian.
Sounds like Jake has had a very exciting and enjoyable weekend, love the bit about him being in the rucksack. Healing thoughts to poor Jack hope he feels better soon. Nora

Thanks for all the kind thoughts..it was Jack (10yr old Terrier) that got bitten, not Jake the Lurcher pup...at least Jack can stand up for himself, it would have been even worse if this had happened to Jake..bit confusing i know, the names sound a bit alike! The Metacam and antibiotics seem to be taking effect, he doesnt seem as sore, i also think the Arnica has helped with any swelling. Jake is getting is 2nd vaccination tomorrow, so i'll take Jack along too and just get the wounds checked over. He's away off to bed now..probably to dream about terrier racing..Jake is fast asleep cuddled into his soft toys...probably dreaming about bumom women cuddling him..and food, of course!
Hope poor Jack is better very soon! I'm not surprised Jake does that cute thing when he meets the ladies - he's a smart young chap. He knows which side his bread is buttered on!
Jack seems much happier today, the painkillers and antibiotics are doing there bit now, i guess, the Vet checked him over this morning when i took him in with Jake (2nd vac) and the wounds are clean etc..so fingers crossed all is well. The little man got his 2nd vac and did he squeak...oooohhhh nooooo...not that one..he was too busy filling these hollow legs with biscuits to notice the needle! I stayed for a coffee as i was working at the other surgery in the afternoon..Jake made himself right at home and had all the girls cuddling and cooing over him, he had a little visit of all the rooms and then sat in the waiting room for a while just to scrutinise people/pets coming and going..what a boy! He is like a different puppy now, cuddly and his tail is always wagging, he sat this morning in the surgery trying to reach up Jack's leg to lick his wounds, whilst Jack licked the top of his head. Boys, eh? He is a happy little soul, he LOVES people and just about ends himself if there are kids around. Am soooooooo relieved he has settled in ok. Training starts in ernest now that he is vaccinated, so its off to puppy classes soon as well as we plan to train him to the whistle and have him retrieving to hand etc. He appears very switched on, he now sits and gives a paw on request..he even switches paws when showing off!
Jack is much better..must be all these healing thoughts.
Jake's training to his 'square' is going well and i now think that this is no coincidence as i have tried this with the last 3 pups we have had...he quite literally will settle right down wherever it is put..with the help of a little spray of DAP too.
We are going away in the caravan this week-end to Thirelstane Castle at Lauder, we have friends in Gala that we are going to visit..we are taking some of the dogs with us..Jack and milly not being fans of the caravan go to my friends' stables for the week-end..and have a ball, Kali is out on walked up grouse shoots this Friday and Saturday, so staying with her handler, so we will only have 4 dogs with us..how weird!!! It will be Jake's first real trip away, apart from the first night we got him which he spent in the caravan. I'll better tell him to pack his little overnight bag!
Gosh, he's sprouting fast. You must be able to see the growth spurts! What a cutie though. Hope you don't meet any squirrels on your travels - they don't stand a chance.
Ahhh what a little snuggle pup, he is adorable. The third picture shows his fiesty side then it is the little angel look in the fourth one, hilarious. Enjoy you caravan break at Lauder we were there two months ago with the dogs and loved it, it is a lovely site, lots of bunnys though as Cas found out at 6.30 am or was it 5.30 am YAWN!!!!!! Nora

The site is a good one then? Are there lots of places to walk?
Jake adores Holly..who it would have to be said is the only one who will engage in true rough and tumble with him, he gets away with a certain amount by the rest, but Holly is his true love, she tolerates being pulled by the tail/eats/nose and being jumped on and hit over the head with toys..the tussle and throw each other around but there is never any malice..when Holly decides 'game over' she puts her teeth over his muzzle and does a low growl, sometimes this is enough..but other times he goes and sits right in front of her and paws her in the face like 'awww....i wanna play more...why cant i...' she then flashes him a full set of white pearlies and walks off..at this he takes off and finds someone else to annoy! He is totally fascinated by the parrots and stands and gazes up at them..Ruby (Timneh African Grey) is learning to talk and the second she sees Jake she shouts 'AAHHHH...NOOOOOO....GOOD BOY' you can see him going 'wow..that pigeon looking thing said my name..!'
We took them to the farm tonight and up to the reservoir where they could cool down in the water, he had a ball dashing in and out of the stream, but wasnt too sure about complete submersion like the rest, who were splashing around like manic sealions! They all lay out in the garden after tea and their walk and he came in and crashed in the lounge alongside everyone else..he has just had his last pee outside and is now sound asleep in his cage in the kitchen, clutching his cuddle Husky!
Wow! These photos are wonderful! Wee Jake is growing fast and his silver overcoat is starting to come through now. His coat looks so silky! Such a little poppet in his fourth photo with the "Who - me?" expression after such a rough and tumble play with your JRT. What a great idea - getting your parrot to tell Jake off!
Hope Jack is continuing to get better and have a great time at Thirlestane Castle!
We had a great week-end..normally it would be a real thought taking a 10w old pup away in a caravan, but he was a total star..my friend has 10 dogs..PRTs, Whippets and a Norwich Terrier and he ran about with them all - he had a ball. Thirelstane Castle was beautiful...and the sun shone!
