Lack of appetite and stomach rumbling
Permalink Closed

My 5 year old dog has started hunger striking maybe once or twice a week. He skips a meal completely and then his stomach starts rumbling and I can see he's in discomfort, but he still won't eat. That includes fillet steak!

Once the stomach settles, usually after a good few hours and a careful belly massage from me he starts eating again followed by gales of flatulence. The full cycle takes about 24 hours. He will then act and eat like normal for a while before he repeats the process.

He's fed James Wellbelowed and he's loving it, but is he getting bored with the taste? Does anyone have experience in similar behaviour?

A big favourite for stomach settling on the forum is live yoghurt and I have to say it did make a big difference with Mason's troubled tum. A dollop on his food improved things no end, it might help.

Our Cas gets the rumbly tummy at least once a week and I give her and the others natural yoghurt once a week with their food same as Marie and it seems to work. Cas herself goes into the field and eats sticky willow ( goose grass ) and this seems to be her way of dealing with it. Hope this helps.biggrin Nora

Millie also regularly gets rumbly tummys - the noises that her insides can make are horrendous.  When she's rumbling, she'll refuse her food and eat grass at every given opportunity.  Left to her own devices, she'll usually eat later on in the day (mine get two smaller meals a day because of Wills and his diabetes).  Mine also get live yoghurt.

Many thanks for the advice, I will most definitely give the yoghurt a try. Regards, Chris. (Bobby says Hi!)

Yep I am also giving live yoghurt to Red. It does seem to help with firming up his p** too. However I find he seldom wants his food in the morning and often doesn't want anything till 4 ish. But then after we have dinner around 9.30ish he wants his again. he is so not a morning boy.
