I'm off to the vets with Bella the morra, her diet is not going well in fact she is putting on weight, not shedding itI'll ask them to do some blood tests to see if there is anything going on I should know about. Poor girl, she does run about lots, but has started falling off the back of the car when she tries to jump in she's ok if the car is on the level, but if it's a wee bit up hill I have to lift her up. Cara is eating great now, but poor Bella gets her wee bit dinner and keeps expanding.
Oh dear, poor wee thing, it must be tough carrying that extra weight. Hpe they come up with a solution. I can't believe Cara's found her appetite| Is she putting any weight on though?? Marie
Cara is gaining weight, now 28.8kg Vet not too concerned about Bella, big examination, lots of prodding Vet said she may be expanding due to being spayed, but there is not too much fat on hershe has an unfortunate conformation, BIG dog body on wee dog legs she is in good health and heart and stuff all sound good. There is lots of muscle on her and her eyes are nice and bright He has put her on a strict diet for the next four weeks, just to see how she copes if the weight comes off She is not keen on the dried bits of stuff I offered her for her supper, we shall have to see how it goes. I'm awfy chuffed there is nothing causing the vet concern, but Bella is less chuffed with the outcome of her visit
When my cat Toots began to produce her ' middle aged spread' my vet called it a prolapse caused by her being spayed and said it was quite common. I happily told people that until it went from a small sagging bulge in the pelvic area to a gigantic tummy, and eventually allround padding...then I had difficulty persuading people it was not fat. As long as Bella is happy and healthy I wouldn't worry about it too much, we're not all built to be supermodels Marie
PS Expensive and probably crazy dieting tip. In her final months Toots was confused and constantly hungry. In a bid to stop her becoming so fat she couldn't move I put boiled chopped up asparagus through her food, she loved the taste and it had zero calories, and bulked out her food. Maybe you could persuade Bella to accept a cheaper alternative - cabbage comes to mind though it might make her Johnny no mates with everyone with a nose!
I'm not finding this easy, Bella has eaten nowt since Monday night she wont eat the stuff the vet sold me (nor will the other two) and she just keeps wagging her tail and looking at me (you know the look I mean) she looks thinner already but it seems so unfair. I've tried adding water to the stuff but Bella still thinks it's naff I don't think I can hold out much longer
It's a nightmare. I know how worried I was when Wills went diabetic and had to go on to prescription food. It looked awful and he didn't look impressed. Thankfully he's was a brave lad and resigned himself to eating this new, cardboardy looking grub. We've also had a similar worry with Tigger recently (she seems to have a food intolerance). She's just a hoover and eats anything! I hope Bella resigns herself to her new diet food soon.
Poor Bella, have you tried a small amount of gravy made with an Oxo cube? It doesn't have many calories, and might boost her tastebuds into giving it a go. Marie
I've tried gravy and a tiny sprinkling of sardines but not one bit has passed her lips She filled up on horse s*** and a mouse at the farm this morning I'm not sure how fattening this combination isI'm astounded that nothing else has eaten the diet food. I left her dish outside last night and all 25 bits were still there this morning.
Does Bellas prescription food only come in the dried variety?Iknow some of the other PF's come in a can, maybe worth asking your vet, does she have to have the prescription diet food can she not have one of the other brands of low calorie foods that are on the market?what about trying natural feeding like the BARF diet, not sure if Bella has a health problem that requires a special diet,if she does it must be even more difficult for you.good luck. and to Bella.
Thanks for the good luck wishes, Bella has been on BARF, they all are and when I told the vet what she had eaten since Monday, he told me to return the dried food and get a refund Bella now has a new dish, it's VERY VERY small, but I feel happier knowing she is getting a very small amount of something she will eat. I've got a smaller dish for Bess as well, just in case Cara still has her LARGE dish and is still emptying it (YAHOOOOOO) It was a bit watching Bella swallow the wee mouse this morning, but she was hungry. You can send slimming thoughts to Bella for the next 4 weeks, if that works please send some for me too
Poor Bella, that prescription food must have tasted like sawdustthe barf diet must be caviar to her compared to that stuff,i'm sure it does it's job when it has to,maybe that's how it works!! it tastes so c###the dog doesn't eat it and so loses weight.and dogs can't cheat so easily on a diet as we humans, though Bella seems to have tried I don't think horse manure and mice are very appetising.
Hope Bella begins to lose the weight, I just tend to cut down the size of the portions rather than try something they may not like. Always better if they eat something than nothing, and no that does include Horse poo or the local wildlife. LOL Nora
