It's that time for the CHRISTMAS SHOW and after much debate - we will be having the days stay the same -BUT DON'T DESPAIR GREYHOUND OWNERS!!! Invites and dog show times are enroute to all members!
THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE LARKHALL SPORTS & LEISURE HALL IN LARKHALL -Just off the M8 and due to the LARGE venue - the shop will be able to bring so many items - and I'll let Claire give all the great details as she has been hard at work preparing for the big event!! This year all the stalls and dog show events will be in the SAME HALL so while you are watching the show you can browse the stalls! And of course - our fine baking will be there to ensure everyone is fed!
SO WHAT'S IN STORE?? Well the festival starts on Saturday - 24th November at 11am (Lurcher Day)when the Provost of South Lankarshire (Provost Russell Clerie) officially opens the event and the dog show begins!! Please join us in celebrating GAL's Annual Christmas Show with all the flair it deserves!!!
Sunday 25th of November - Greyhound Day - will again start at 11am with the various dog classes!
Entry is £3 per dog/family to the event and to enter your dog in the classes - it is £1 per dog per class!
We will have the shop, raffle, trombola, food stall, coppers & ink cartridges, etc but the BIGGEST STALL will be the CHRISTMAS BOXES for the HOMELESS DOGS!! The dogs could always use a little christmas cheer and a few trinkets as well!! Please give as generously as you can - like you have in the past and the dogs will certainly appreciate it!!
As usual we are looking for volunteers to help set up, help with the ring, stalls, and help wrap up!! We do appreciate all the support and help we get from so many of you during the year and if anyone has any time - we would love to have you helping with our last big event of the year! Please email either joyce or linda@gal.org.uk !
~Thanks so much and look forward to seeing everyone there!
The shop should be well stocked for both days. Let me know if you are looking for anything in particular. I am hoping to have the calendars for the show and some nice new exclusive Christmas cards:
The cards will have the following design and will be £1.50 each or 5 for £5
As an extra special treat I have also had the same image engraved on a mini photo frame. This item will be exclusive to the Christmas Show (only if there are any left they will be sold via the online shop).
These other engraved are currently being engraved to order, so if you are interested in some of these and want to collect it at the Christmas fair can you PM me to let me know. I can then make sure that there are enough to go round.
Well, what a great day we had at Larkhall today. Lots of lovely lurchers, lots of very nice people, and lots of money made for GAL.
The provost of South Lanarkshire opened the event and judged every category. Mr Russell Clearie was an absolute star. What a charismatic man, as Linda said charisma with a capital "C". I hope that he enjoyed his day as much as we enjoyed his presence.
The sandwiches are all prepared, the baking has been done, the feet soaked! So, it's all systems go to do it all again tomorrow!
Congrats to everyone who helped organise the Christmas Show, it was fantastic fun and great to see so many GAL members turn up yesterday to give their support. You all deserve a medal for all the work you put in! Marie
Thanks to all the organisors. It was a really enjoyable event. Larkhall is a much better venue than Langside College because the spectators didn't end up crammed in around the ring (also easier to driver to as it's just off the motorway) - hope GAL continues to use it in future. Sheila (Timmy's Mum)
Well done to all who helped organise the event and to all the winners. It was a great day. Morse slept all evening and didn't even "remind" me that it was his dinner time!

We also had a good day on saturday. Bella was her usual misbehaving self! I wouldnt have it any other way, not! Thanx to all the organisers on the day. Love the new calender and christmas cards designs and my cosy new red fleece. Hope there are some pictures to come?? Are there any?? P.S. bella came second in rought coated bitch and first in juvenile lurcher. Yeah. Well done to everyone
Hello everyone and sorry this is so late!! The show brought in many more applications so we have been busy sorting out home checks and hope more dogs will go home.... Jamie, Lacey and Sammy the Lurcher are away and with a little luck a few more will find their permanent homes soon!
BUT ON TO THE NEWS OF THE DAY - THE GRAND TOTAL raised is about £5,000! And we continue to receive cheques DAILY from those who couldn't make it but wanted to be there!! The GAL Committee feels this was a very sucessful year - with a good solid amount raised and dogs going home - THIS IS WHAT GAL IS ALL ABOUT!! :)
I again want to thank the many volunteers who help run the show - without them it would not have been such a wonderful time. The happy atomosphere was all around and a big thank you for everyone who attended!! The dogs sure appreciate it!
I have the list of winners - and I'm waiting from the photographers to send me the photo's so I can put them on! I hope to have them up before the end of the weekend!
Thanks for your patience and look forward to seeing you all at the next event!! Linda
What a huge amount raised for GAL at the Christmas Fayre and Dog Show!
The volunteers who helped out at the show deserve a huge thanks!
Laura was just one of the volunteers and what a little star she was. She came along on both days and helped out, as did a lot of volunteers. Before Laura left on the Sunday afternoon she said that she was definitely coming next year to help out! Thanks Laura!
GAL goes from strength to strength.
I hope everyone has a really good Christmas and that we will all work even harder in 2008 and raise more money and continue to save the wonderful dogs.
