On Friday Morse had his P.A.T debut visit to a local nursing home. I was more nervous than he was, he went straight in and started approaching people for cuddles immediately. He was his usual gentle self and allowed everyone who wanted to, pet him. The staff were overwhelmed at how one woman in particular responded to him "she usually isn't interested in anyone or anything" but she gave Morse a smile and a stroke. I had one heart stopping moment when we approached a woman covered in cake crumbs - an image of the pointy hoover cleaning her up flashed through my mind, but old Morsey was looking for a moving target and managed to catch a falling piece of scone from someone else. From then on he was on the hunt for more cake! I had taken some treats from home for people to give him if they wished and this seemed to satisfy him, for a while! As we walked through the corridor, a fire alarm test went off but he didn't bat an eyelid and when he was reversed into by a wheelchair he didn't react. After I checked him out I looked up to see the woman responsible, reversing and uplifting the dinning room table! As we left I heard a man asking when he'd be back.
Thankfully my fears of him relieving himself in the building were unfounded and all in all it was a very positive experience.

Well done morse. You must be so proud of him.I was thinking about trying Summer out as a therapy pet but seeing as I have a baby on the way that might have to wait a few years :). Nothing beats the feeling of pride in your pooch when you see peoples faces light up when you arrive.
P.A.T stands for Pets As Therapy. It's a national charity which assess' dogs and cats for suitablility to visit nursing homes/hospitals/hospices/special needs schools, etc. The P.A.T animal can bring alot of happiness and comfort to isolated people and having a ceature giving unconditional love can really help some people open up.

I've seen these dogs in action in nursing homes and their visits bring joy to a great many people. My son says he will put me in the cat and dog home when my time comes, it costs less and I'd be happier with the dogs than with other folk I told him there will be no dosh left when I go, so if no one rehomes me after my alloted time I'll be for the 'big sleep injection' Think I'll get myself microchipped then they can keep returning me to him Well done Morse, you are doing a great job.
