What a fright I received on Thurs evening when the dog walker appeared at my door without Tigerlily. He explained she took off after something in the bushes along the canal and no amount of calling got her back. He searched for over an hour and was now at my door to tell me but he was heading back out having got his daughter to join him. Everything went through my head. It was 5pm, dark, and no way would she be seen in the dark. He headed out and I called the police. No joy. Tried another police station and thankfully someone had left a mobile number with them saying they had found a black greyhound. Turns out another greyhound owner had found her and taken her home and given her dinner! What had happened to her tag I've no idea. She's microchipped though thankfully. Picked her up but unfortunately she was quite badly injured. Had a dash to the vet's where she had to get her bum shaved to get access to a nasty wound. Was back at the vet's again yesterday and they're pleased with her progress. She seems quite happy but I feel terrible for her . What a traumatic time...
Having been through every emotion under the sun and more we know how that feels!!!!What a good outcome Tigerlilly and Sammy safe, someone out there is looking out for our pooches.Hope she gets well soon.
What an ordeal for you and poor pooch, so glad she was found quickly. Hope she heals well, the greys def seem to have a gaurdian out there this season :)
I think that it is the baldy bum that is making me feel so bad. I got Tigerlily almost a year ago and she had a baldy bum then. It took a long while for hair to grow in and now I feel it's my fault she's in an even worse state in her nether regions than then! I've also decided to cancel the dog walker. I may be being irrational but I just feel that it is one accident too many. Indiana has been injured twice in 6 months and now Tigerlily. Perhaps two hours a day off lead will lead to the odd accident but I don't think I'm prepared to risk it. Am I being an over-protective parent? Irregardless, my dad is going to take over as of tomorrow. They may not get off lead as much during the day and when they do it will be in smaller areas but at least I'll feel that they are safer...
as some one said to me a happy pooch on lead is better than a lost or injured pooch off lead. Do what ever you feel right as long as your pooches are happy :). hope the wee souls baldy bum grows back quickly.
I don't think you're being irrational, its all about peace of mind. I have had to get used to Mason getting the odd graze and scrape being off at daycare with other dogs all day, but I know he can't get out (or shouldn't) and is in a safe environment. I'd be terrified at the thought of someone else letting Mason offlead anywhere and think its brave of you to have given it a shot. At the end of the day you know what feels best for your dogs Marie
