Just an idea for after Christmas (forum auction)
Permalink Closed

I was wondering if we should have a GAL forum auction, I am on a couple of other forums that do this and manage to raise loads of money.

After Christmas we could all offer our unwanted jumpers, socks etc. I will also see if I can get some of our suppliers to donate collars etc. To start it off I also have a piece of artwork donated by Amy Bolam (who does the art deco greyhounds).

The idea would be that I would open up a thread and for 1 week people would post what they are auctioning. For the next week people would bid on the items until a stated end date and time. The highest bid before that date/time would win the item, they would send the money to GAL and the person who listed it would post it out to them.

I am not promising that we will do this but I wondered if you would be interested in donating items and participating in a forum auction?

Claire

Sounds like a good idea. I've donated a few bits and pieces in the past couple of months and haven't heard of them being raffled/auctioned. There was a cross-stitch of a black greyhound and two huggyhounds. Have they been raffled at any of the events (I haven't managed to get to any recently unfortunately)? If not, perhaps they could be included. aww.gif

Hi Karen

You're beautiful cross stitch was part of the amazing prizes we had for Greyhound Day at the Christmas Fayre. Your tapestry was so life like, especially the eyes. It was much admired and the lucky winner was absolutely thrilled with it.

Many thanks for the donation, having done a few of these in the past I know how much work goes into them. Mine never turned out good enough to have tickets bought for them!

Very much appreciated to have such a unique prize.

Hi

Thanks for those, we raffled them at the Christmas fair.

I've been very specific about what I want for Christmas so I'm really hoping not to have any unwanted gifts! However, it's such a great idea, I'd go out and get something just for this. It would be very exciting to see how much all the items raise smile.gif

Sounds like a great idea...I've become such a boring old so and so that I only give the nephews/nieces Christmas presents these days. I tell people to give to charity on my behalf (I've already received a ram and a ewe, apparently, but don't think we can auction thembiggrin.gif)
I got so fed up of getting stuff I didn't need every year.
Sure I could rustel up something for an aution tho.

I think it's a great idea too!

One man's rubbish is another's precious find!

Looking forward to it (Well, not really as it will mean that my son will be back in Italy after a fortnight at home for Christmas)

Hi Claire,
What a cracker (pun was fully intended) of an idea! I'm sure I will have something I can contribute. Hope the auction can be arranged.

OK Just thinking that we should do this as a Valentines Auction. Say have a forum open from 28th to the 11th for people to add items and then start the voting on the 10th until the 24th.

How it will work:

I will create a new forum for the auction which will be live on the 28th with topics at the top with instructions and information and an auction chat topic.

Offering Items:
From the 28th to the 11th people will be able to add lots (posts) with the details of the item they are offering.

If you have an item or service that you would like to donate for the auction please make a post with a good description and photo if possible and say if there is a reserve/starting price and any conditions e.g.

"Beautiful and stylish greyhound/lurcher martingale collar 38mm wide in black with gold dragons. The collar is made with heavy duty webbing and cast brass findings for safety. The collar is adjustable and will fit from a medium greyhound to large lurcher.

Reserve price £5.00"

It is assumed that postage costs from the donator to the seller will be paid by the donator unless specified in the auction. It is assumed that all people participating in the auction will have a delivery address in the UK. If the winning bidder is out with the UK they will be expected to contribute to the postage costs.

As these go up I will lock them until the start of the auction.

Bidding on items:
On the 11th I will unlock the posts to allow people to place bids and the auction will close at 9pm on Sunday the 24th February.

Bids are placed by posting the amount you wish to offer in the appropriate thread, you can bid more if you are out bid up until the finish of the auction. You may also bid on more than one item/service.

The person with the highest bid on the closing date wins the service. Payment should me made within seven days of the auction closing date and can be made using Paypal, cheque or credit card. Paypal and credit card payments will be processed via the GAL shop.

----
Any questions thoughts or things I have missed just let me know.
