Okay everyone, time to 'fess up to the ridiculous things we do for our dogs but would never openly admit!
They say confession is good for the soul so here is mine...
Although I know its bad I always leave a few scraps on my dinner plate at night for Mason to hoover up when I am done. I did it with the cat and have never broken the habit.
That's not so bad you think?
Here's the shameful part. Sometimes, like tonight, Mason is just exhausted from his busy day of lying on a sofa at daycare and can't be bothered getting off the couch for his scraps.
Instead he pathetically looks at the plate then at me while softly whining until I take the plate to him so he can lick it clean without having to get up.
Yes, I have become his personal waitressashamed.gif
I know I shouldn't but when he looks at me with those big pathetic eyes.....

Marie how could you. I would never spoil my girls like that.
1/ I do not give Cassie,s ear a good old scratch when she whines and wraps her paw round her lug, while looking at me with doeful eyes.hmm
2/  I do not rub and tickle Sasha,s tummy when she goes into roach position and turns on the charm aww
3/ I do not allow Rag in my bed especialy in the morning for a cuddle when she whines from her crate.
4/ As from scraps at the table, that is a big no,no.

I let Zak, JD and Mij sleep in the bed with me.
I give them little scraps on the very odd occassion.
Zak, JD, Mij and me regularly have movie nights when we chill out on the couch watching movies and eating popcorn...

You wont find cleaner dishes anywhere,a dishwasher can't compete with a good old wash from a dogs tongue. You can put them straight back in the cupboard without having to dry them!!!LOLrofl.gif

I really don't want to admit to this but i spoon fed Charlie when he first fell ill trying to coax him into eating, now he looks at his dish, back at me and then his dish again ...i get the spoon out the drawer, his tail starts wagging and he whimpers if i don't feed him quick enough.

I know, made my own bed here i think :0)

I think I probably have too many to list, I though that dogs licking plates and getting table scraps was normal as my parents dogs always did. I am always surprised when dinner guests are grossed out by that. In fact as my parents dont have a dog at the moment my Mum if she is preparing meat, microwaves then freezes the scraps to give to our dogs when she sees them.

If I am doing baking I always have an audience and when I have finished with a spoon, cream, yogurt, honey etc I let one of the dogs lick it before throwing it in the sink.

On a weekend morning the dogs get to cuddle on the bed with me while I read my book.

yup best dishwasher in town :), Summer always gets scraps or at least the flavour off the plate if there's none left over. Mornings when we have toast she gets a slice too. I'm doing some baking today so she'll probably get her own fairy cake too. After all life would be boring if all you ate was kibble :)

Well, I've been nightshift this weekcry, today I woke up in a dog sandwichbiggrin.gif, Lulu lying down one side, Sally and Dust on the other(don't worry Purdy its a Kingsize there was room for a wee one leftbiggrin.gif), I crawled down to the bottom of the bed to get out so that I didn't disturb them how sad is thatweirdface.
And I thought eating of the plate was mandatorysmile.gif.

LOL glad i'm not the only one that seems to burp the dog. After Summer eats she comes trotting through for a good huggle rub, belches then trots off to recommence lounging :)

I'm just puzzled by the "shameful" bit here. All seems perfectly normal and reasonable to me...

(Well, except the "putting dog-licked dishes straight in the cupboard"...)

Cheers,
Graham

Yep, all sounds fairly standard to me. Millie often gets breakfast in bed, Tigger is a regular visitor to the bed for her late night/early morning cuddle, I have to make Millie's bed for her if it's got all wrinkled. Spoons/plates are fair game if left where they can be reached. We often cook extra sausages, chicken or whatever so that the dogs get one. They all share my toast with me in the morning and when I'm making my lunch and cutting cheese (or doing ham for Graeme) they all get a bit. wink.gif

Same here Karen cheese is a great favourite, nothing can be left sitting for long before some snout comes sniffing around,it takes me about half an hour to go round everyone in and out with treats am and pm.I have a box of pigs ears to give them and the box comes under examination by all who go past it.

Its good to know I'm not alonebiggrin.gif Mason also comes to be burped after his dinner before going back to lounging....where do they learn that?
Whenever anyone tells me Mason is spoiled I tell them he's easy to spoil because he doesn't display any bad behaviour which makes me regret doing it.
Maybe this is why greyounds are so thoroughly ruined by their ownersconfused.gif
We could all just be a big bunch of saps though.

Someone who knows about such matters once told me that burping is a very good thing for your hound to do as it expels unwanted gas from the stomach which if left can sometimes lead to the serious condition known as gastric torsion/bloat.

Pilgrim thinks nothing of stepping right upto me and proudly letting rip. If I'm sitting down at the time it means he's looking me straight in the eye, not a very pleasant experience. Pilchard breath burps are usually the worst.

Caspian one of our cats gets to lick my porridge/cereal bowl out every morning and Martin always leaves five bits of his breakfast toast for the hounds. It's an exact science as they have to vary in size, Pilgrim would not be happy with a Mouse size portion!

A work colleague who is proud owner of GAL greyhound May told me she has been caught opening the dishwasher and licking the plates before they've been washed. Margaret says it can only be a matter of time before someone thinks the plates have been through a wash cycle and puts them back in the cupboard without realising they've been May cleaned.biggrin.gif

If cooking something like sausages or slicing cheese, an extra amount is always prepared for the dogs. Again breaking it in to three portions is an exact science! One of my dogs, Mari, loves to lie on top of me in the winter months. If I am sitting on the sofa and she wants to lie on me she sits staring at me and barks until I lie down, she then jumps on board! I joke to friends that when the evening gets cooler I don't need to put a cardigan on, I just put a dog on instead. Other than you guys (who it seems are all as dog daft as me) everybody thinks I am mental when I relay the story. At times the phone goes unanswered and my mug of tea goes cold because she is so settled I daren't disturb her!

i have been told that Rowen is a bit oveweight due to his love of food, i'd just like to say that i think he's stunning looking and he's a VERY happy dog, i alway told the kids to share as i have 4 (human) kids so it is very hard to tell them not to share with Rowen, he lies sleeping till dinner is over then he's up like a flash and away to the table to get his share, lol. He then comes into the living room and rubs his face off the sofa then heads to the nearest child for a good belly rub.........poor hannah got him last night, be burped at her and she said........yuk Rowen that was roast beef lolololol, bless. Rowen is so spoiled, he can go and do what he wants when he wants and he knows it lol, his fav thing to do is drink the water out the toilet, the door has to be left open at all times or he'll bark till someone comes and opens it for him, what a boy......
