Hi - we're getting our lurcher girl, Misty, tomorrow - v excited and it has been a long wait to get her. She's not an ex-racer but an ex-family pet whose owner took ill and couldn't look after her.
Will be working on her recall from the very start (am going to try using the Dog Listener's techniques to put me at the head of the pack - will let you know how I get on with that one!)
Am hoping that after a few weeks, she'll be good enough to let off. Am looking for a variety of places in the South Side/Clarkston area of Glasgow or nearish that are enclosed spaces to let her off in before venturing in to any non-enclosed areas. I know about the dog park in Bellahouston but are there any other areas that anyone knows of?
Have a word with Denise(GAL founder)she lives at Clarkston,I'm sure Denise can help,I bet all her doggies could tell Misty all the best places to go for a run.!!Good luck when you get her, keep us posted, and piccies of Misty please.
Thanks Midas and sorry for delay in replying - it's been a bit of a whirlwind since we got Misty and of course not the calmest time of the year for the poor thing in a new household! Forgive my ignorance but how would I get in touch with Denise? I have seen a lady walking greyhounds occasionally but in the winter you sometimes don't see that many people. Plus Misty is wary of other dogs at the moment so stopping to have conversations is difficult (doing the dog listener approach of ignoring other dog, moving on and rewarding is helping to build her confidence). Any help gratefully received! Will upload pics of Misty when I get a chance D
Click on "List all Users" above and you will find Denise at the bottom of the second page. Click on her name and you can then send her a private message. Would love to see photos of Misty, she looks very similar to a dog we have in our rescue shelter in Spain.
