Hi - just realised I should have posted an intro here first!
We adopted Misty on 15th December from SSPCA in Cardonald. Misty is a mixed grey lurcher girl whose previous owner took ill and could no longer look after her. She's 7 years old and has been called Misty all her life so we decided not to change it. She's a very good natured girl and has taken to her new house and her new mum and dad well. No separation anxiety at all (why on earth would you leave your basket she says!) and she loves going for walks. However despite her being quite good with dogs in the dog home and with the dog walker, she's not so great with dogs with us. We think she's protecting us so we'll need to work on that training.
We've had her in Bellahouston dog park on a long lead and her recall has been great so we're hoping once she gets surer of herself and her surroundings she will calm down with other dogs and we'll have her on the lead soon.
She's got a case of alopaecia (?) which the home thought was hormonal so they've had her spayed. If you see a lovely grey lurcher with bald bits on either flank (and of course a bald leg and tummy from her op!), that's our girl! Of course we've bought her a lovely green coat from GAL to keep her bald bits warm!
We all live very happily in the Clarkston area and hope to meet other doggy friends once she settles in.
If you would like Misty to meet other dogs, to help her socialisation, and if you would like to chat to other owners, we have regular monthly dog walks in Edinburgh and Motherwell, Glasgow. All the dogs attending our walks are kept on lead.
The first Sunday of every month at Strathclyde Country Park, Motherwell. The last Sunday of every month at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh. See events page on our main web site for further details.
We look forward to hearing more about Misty on the forum.
hello, welcome to the forum. Would be great to meet you at one of the walks :). We love our pics on here they're parctically mandatory hehe. Misty sounds lovely.
Thank you all for your kind words of welcome - I knew Greyhound and Lurcher people would be lovely people!
Misty is settling in well. Still doesn't love big bouncy dogs but loves nice quiet dogs. She met her Bedlington lurcher cousin, Reilly, over the festive breaks and she just loved her. Reilly not as sure given that we're part of Reilly's pack!
We're going to get an appt with Viv Silverstein if we can re her narkiness with other dogs. Don't mind her not liking other dogs that come up to her but don't want her to be the aggressor.
Her baldness is getting better. Leg growing back and patchy regrowth on her flanks. Her belly is still a bit bare.
She is indeed a salt and pepper hairy (what a great description) and looking at the House Lurcher book, I'd say she was deerhound/greyhound 1st cross. She's a very clever girl and really enjoys being trained (especially the treats!).
We had her on Croy beach (no other dogs around) and let her off the lead and she just loved it. Was great to see her sprint with her tail held so high! Planning to do that again this week and will take camera this time!
Glad to hear she is settling in and hope you enjoy Viv's classes. Several of our group have plans to attend the next set of classes so hope you get to meet more of GAL supporters!
