Does anyone have any experience with the show pedigree of greyhound rather than the racing pedigree??
I've had a look round the net and couldn't find too much, but i'm wondering if there is any difference in the nature/preydrive of the dogs. Would a greyhound brought from show lines, and raised in the home as a puppy still have the prey drive of the racing breed??
Hi,The show greyhound tends to be heavier in build, much deeper in the chest and have smaller heads, actually there aren't hundreds of them out there,Mistweaves is a well known kennel and there is a breeder in Kilmarnock, the show hounds are usually home reared like other breeds and are not encouraged or trained to chase obviously there will be some prey drive there but it's not being developed, show Greys have declined and many shows now include classes for ex racers even Crufts!!!SKC at Ingliston in May and August, there's also the Hound Association of Scotland show.
Going to a lot of shows with my whippet I have met a few greyhounds both at open and hound shows. They are few and far between and are of a different shape than the racing grey and calm and have less prey driven temprement. One show I was at the greyhound had been brought over from America for stud and was attending a few shows here. As Midas says the Kennel Club now accept ex-racers that compete along side the show bred dogs.

Interesting info. I remember a few years ago seeing a show greyhound at the Scottish Kennel Club show and it looked enormous - height wise. It's head was level with a woman's waist.
The dogs pedigree must be available and you must register them with the Kennel Club where they will send you documents with registration number, you can not show dogs without this and you must be a Kennel Club Member yourself. Nora
