New legislation re. lost and found dogs ?
Permalink Closed

Read on one of the postings on the doglost site that as from April police will not be responsible for lost/found dogs, and that this will then be responsibility of Local Authority. Asked Vet today, but she hadn't received any notification of this. Can anyone tell me if this is correct and how it is supposed to work?

Yes, perhaps that's it. It seems really odd that vet didn't know anything about it as she's really good.

They were talking about this yesterday on the Jeremey Vine show (Radio 2) but unfortunately I missed it! I had wondered myself if it was just in England.

Thanks! Found programme, but still not clear if this affects whole of UK. Is on Monday's (04/02) Jeremy Vine Show, so you'd be able to get it on the BBC Radio homepage, Listen Again facility for Radio 2. Topic starts about 30 mins. in and as you might expect makes for disturbing listening.

Appears only to apply to England and Wales. Info found on Defra site after search for New Legislation Stray Dogs April 2008 UK.

Local Dogwarden I spoke to about this is under the impression this applies to Scotland as well.

Asked about this when I phoned Cardonald about Dev today and person I spoke to seemed fairly certain it did not apply to Scotland. Even if it doesn't now who knows in the future?
