What a clever boy! I love the look of concentration they get on their face when they are waiting for the take it command, who says greyhounds ar daft Marie
every single greyhound i've ever known refused to sit... is it a breed thing or have i only met strange hounds??
Mason certainly doesn't sit, its not a natural position if you look at their make-up, we know a few who do, but most don't. I tried to teach Mason to sit while we were attending obedience classes but discovered only that he can walk backwards very well. Marie
Morse doesn't "sit". He doesn't do "leave" either. I was inspired to try again after watching Bob making it look so easy but Morse becomes deaf upon the sight of food.

Jet does sit but I can't remember for the life of me how we got him to do it, i know a lot of treats were involved and probably a bit of pushing/prodding - poor dog! Actually Jet is getting better at the leave it thing, unless he thinks we're not watching.
Rufus can sit too, and stay and down and give a paw. Really, we didn't teach him any of them though, he came supplied with tricks. Although none of them include "not eyeballing rotties". This makes me think at least at some point someone has viewed him as a pet, which makes me glad for him.
Stumpy doesn't walk into glass doors anymore, ta daaaaa.
We've been practicing 'sit' and Bob's got the hang of it - but only in his bed so far - need to try other less comfy locations so he can really master it!!!!
It's the way greys give you that look and attitude thats sorta says.. " I'm so above all that.. I could.. and I know where you're going.. but I just don't want to so I'll do the Baby Grumpling thing and make like I don't understand.." .. "Unless I feel like it.. then I will.. "
They're not your average dog.. yet you can't anthropromorphise either..
Summer sits on command and automatically when the treat cupboard is opened :) she's even started offering a paw now and again but that part is purely on her terms lol. She doesn't sit on laminate or tiles mind you as she wouldn't be able to get back up without 'gracefully' skidding about so she reverses until she feels carpet or a rug under her back paws then assumes the butt hover position, you can't really call it sitting i suppose cause of the shape of greys the butt doesn't touch the floor unless they do a kinda side saddle sit :)

They really are a breed apart..
That's so true, I have a theory the people who say (and I meet a few) greyhounds are not intelligent dogs say it because they don't do what they're told, when we know its not that they don't understand its that they choose to ignore us - I think that makes them smarter than any dog that runs after a stick you've thrown away and brings it back Marie
