The Hel' Twins
Permalink Closed

Well it seems the girls had a much less stressfull journey than their two legged counterpart! But they made it in good health and good time.  Ladies in cargo office were ecstatic when i called as they were worried i was not coming to collect them....as if! (although the last 24hrs had maybe had me thinking at points)
They seem to think that a mopped floor is just a clean pee areaevileye Just when you think they have it sussed that the paper covered bathroom is the pee room they come back to the living room when you are not looking! walking bare foot in the house is a dangerous gamble these daysbleh

I was greeted by much wagging of tails and happy faces at the airport upon collection and my stress about paperwork was unfounded and it all went super smoothly, a couple of signatures and a small handling fee later thy were loaded into the car, another stressful point!!

upon arrival at the house they seemed completely unfazed by the goings on and set about there business as the Hel' Twins they are so aptly named. into eveything and more. In the video they found a paper bag uner my bed and thought they had struck gold. its shredded now but it kept them amused for hours. It wasn't long before Coira had sussed how to jump onto the couch and it became a battle to keep her off. One which i have sadly given into now, wlthough its not allowed without sitting first. a poor compromise i know.

Coira is the one with no fear while Edina is a litle more cautious. while in the shower i left the door open so i could hear what mischief they were upto, as they appeared at the door i calle dtme in to see wht they would do. Edi' took a step in and stopped not being keen on all that water nonsense, Coira just walked in and started snapping at the water drops, after a moment of these she gave up, i guess realising it was futile i called her again and she just walked into the shower not caring one bit. after much laughing from me and scratch behind the ear for her she just turned and trotted back out to playing with Edi'biggrin

The sofa has been a much sought after playground with what i gues to be king of the castle being the game of choice or should i say queen? well Coira is the queen for sure in this pair!

A quick visit to the pet store has them equipped with their very own collar and lead sets, not that Coira is the thug here but guess which collar is hers, this after only 15minutes

on another occasion i left them for a few moments to find Coira doing here best impression of her mother, now called Super Coira

Versus Super Cara, i think Coira has it a little better here

this is a pic form a while back when she was far less brutish

oh how they change!
Edina being the proper girl she is prefers the nice warm blankets

Here we have Edi' tryin the super dog pose but not quite getting it

but i guess despite all the growling nd fighting Coira starts with her sister she loves her really, even though the pic makes her look half the size!!

here is where i fell asleep on the couch for a nap in the afternoon (they are hard work you know) and awoke to find myself with a guardian angel

and finally another vid from their first moments out of the crate. NOTE TO SELF, do not play this video when they are sleeping!! now they are awake againdoh

Oh they are so funny and so cute. I played the last video while Misty was lying sleeping beside me and she lifted one ear, opened one eye and has just gone back to sleep. Gone are her puppy days - enjoy them while you can!

Well it seems that training is coming along at a good pace. Recall is coming quite well although the sitting on return is not quite so consistant. tends to be one or the other with the other jumping excitedly. Coira and i had our first battl eof wits today. Obviously bored of playing she started to growl and bare teeth to me in the ensuing reprimand she drew blood from me. A quick reminder of who is charge of this pack later and we are back to ball and a much more pleasant little monster. She can get quite a strop on when she wants but previously only used this on her sister.

Well this evenings little escapade into the courtyard after work has just shown that all off todays good efforts are far out of the window! one recall and only Edi came then Coira grudgingly after she realised she was missing out. then running away when it was time to come in, running around the yard barking. me thinks this was disapproval of my not giving them all my time.
Ho hum heres hoping for a better day the morro....

so here we have a new day dawned!

Dear lord may i have more than 3-4 hours sleep at a time some day soon!_!_

well i like to think we have some small resemblance of some success this morning, with the house being at its driest yet and all presents confined to the bathroom (this is the designated area) I was awoken by Coira giving it some large whining so up and on with clothes and out to the back yard we go. tada both pee and poo in a matter of moments, alas Edina still doesn't seem to get this idea and prefers to either sit down or scour around the bins for something horrid to play with. Its been snowong here and is minus something outside and watching them find their first frozen puddle was entertaining first cinfused by hte cracking noises then trying to eat ithmm
It seems having Nika around is a rather great thing in that they wear each other out. This morning after breakfast saw a three way tug of war over the rope toy, with much running aorund and expenditure of energy, yay!biggrin
Edina just doesn't seem as sharp as Coira other than recall where she wins paws down every time and Coira likes to turn sit and look at you and say "yes i hear you but i aint coming just yet".  Both are pretty good at sit to command, Edi doesn't seem to have the lead manners of her sisterfurious but will sit and wait while it is fitted. Feeding time was a nother small victory today with Coir already sitting and waiting as i put the bowl down and not moving until allowed unlike Edi who was like a spring as usual. anyway i gues its pictures you guys want so here goes

This is one from when they first arrived

as are these two from their favourite game "King of the castle"

Nika arrives and shows her ears are no smaller

ANd settle sin striaght away

So Angelic and lovely......when sleeping

Always time for hugs

This mornings tug of war battle

Nika usually doing large jumps and trying to escape to no avail

Coira deciding the toy is not as much fun as attacking the big dog

Nika really does have the patience of a saint!

Sounds like they are coming along nicely. I always think that an older dog is good for puppies as they learn lots from watching them. Though you just have to hope that they don't learn any bad habits.

Good luck with the potty training, Bryn aint grasped the concept of doing it on the paper yet, the Ikea mats are taking many hits and spend lots of time in the washing machinebiggrin

Take two pigs tails treats and give between three dogs, sit back and enjoy, biggrin

School boy error, went to shop and left a toilet roll within easy reachhmm not saying it was Nika, but she had it in her mouth and went into the naughty corner as soon as i came in!

Well igues its about time for a wee update on the girls , they are becoming proper lanky little monsters now. Coira who is normally the bully in the house is a different story in the dog park, If there are too many dogs around she goes all pathetic and hides with tail between the legs and ear down. I try to ignore it and let her see we all just play butits hard to keep away at times especially when every other owner on the park thinks you are being mean but i dont want her to think that every time she does this i will come running. Harsh but fair i think feel free to tel me i am wrong??
Edina on the other hand who is normally the quiet one and cautious is alot more outgoing in the parkweirdface yesterday on each visit both had brave pills fropm somewhere, in the morning visit i started playing with a very large GSD, gorgeous big guy but still young and boisterous he liked chasing snow balls so while we were playing this game the girls watched and sniffed around until he started to bark at me, then Coira woke from her daze and came running over to have a go at himevileye
It was hilarious watching the 8kg 11weekold pup having a pop at the 30+kg GSD she would stand and watch but as soon as he barked at me she told him off.
In the evening it was a different story this time a young Rotty again big feller though wanted to play with the girls, Coira ran and hid much to his disapointment Edi' got annoyed by him and started giving it big snaps snarls growls and hackles up, he just looked confused and back peddled away theowner and i couldnt stop laughing at this game repeating itself. poor guy just wanted some friends toplay with but they were having none of it.
After the smug moment they seem to have lapsed and dicvovered the joys of selective deafnessevileye

House training sems to be improving but pen destruction is on the up, i have to make sure all pens are well out of reach or they are completely destroyed ny sofa now has a new pattern of blue patches!!furious

Both girls will do sit and wait but only Edina has mastered that paws are useful for impresing, Coira just looks at you like "what are you doing with my paw?"

Tomoroow is back to the vets for their rabies jabsdoh another 100 bites the dust but their passport is filling up nicely with stampsblankstare

Nika is still living with me and i am not wanting to give her back now although i have two days off from her as she is with my friend who is thinking of getting a dog with his girlfriend, she has a Chow Chowconfused he has a westy back home in England but both dogs live with respepctive parents just now, so Nika is being pampered with them for two days so they can see if they really do want a dog, its funny i get regular texts about her antics as they were very warned about her destructive streak if she is not given uber attention. Touchj wood she has been behaving here and only stole a loaf of bread the other day, Coira looked like she had eaten a cabbage whole when we weent out for the evening walk i guess she had her fair share of it!
Here are the angels

Coira

Edina

And poor Suvi who only wanted to sleep but the girls wanted to keep her safe, she is their Mother around these parts with her regular visits to keep them on their toes. So far they have learned English, Finnish, Italian and swedishweirdface

It's nice to see the wee scones, they look so like Fala, Bryn seems to be the odd one out (wrong colour and all that) Give Coira the odd reassuring cuddle when the BIG dogs are in the park, she'll want to know your the top dog and you'll look after heraww
Next door took Fala and Bryn on a big walk yesterday, they came to a BIG stream, Bryn jumped in, sank then swam for landcry they had to walk home quickly to dry him off. I think the girls got all the brains and Bryn got the fluffy cute looks. They can't get over how much more energy Fala has, Bryn likes his play time, but loves his sleepy time moreaww
Keep posting the vids, I like a laughbiggrin

I love the thought if these pups in the dogpark. I'm sure Coira will find her confidence in time but it must be so tough trying to not wrap her in cotton wool while wanting to protect her.
Good to see their doing so well though, their legs seem to have stretched a fair bitsmile.gif

Well thats the pups all jabbed up for another year, full arsenal done now, couch, distemper rabies etc and a pack of worming flea type stuff a mere 156 laterweirdface
i think there may be a slight side affect of sleepyness after the jabs as they are even more dosey than usual just now! which is nicesmile Coira again didnt even notice being jibbed while edina gave her little yelp. Vet was impressed at how calm and peacfull they were she sat down to chat and they climbed on her sofa with her and curled up to sleep. already turning into proper houndsbiggrin i told her its a different story when they get to the park though then all the saved energy cmes to play.
They are now a porky 9.2kg for Coira and 9.5kg for Edina up form 7.2 and 7.8 2 weeks ago 1 kg a week and they don't even look skinny ah they grow up so fast i going to need a bigger sofa soonconfused

Well tonights walk saw us running after bunnies, shame Dad cant run as fast as the girls but they now know what to do when bunnies are in the park! Strangely it was Edina who sussed it first, i think maybe as she tends to be more badly behaved on the leash than Coira but Coira soon had it sussed.
Coira has followed a rabbit scent all the way to the burrow in the snow while Edina just kept sticking her face in the snow every few steps, but tonight saw it the other way round, after the first run/chase after some bunnies Edi' was far more switched on. even stopping to sniff the air at one point then pulling me to the next green area to some rabbits. one of my work colleauges was mortified at these stories and asked what will they do if they catch one, "kill it and eat it" shocked her even more. she told me they wont know how to as dogs don't do that anymorebiggrin i love city folk at times

Everyone here is in love with them they got half the women in the dog park all soppy around them. Today we also had our first sunny day with sunshine and a little warmth so a most realxing couple of hours was spent in the park just sitting around.
I was hoping to meet our friend Tristan the Saluki but no show from him today, the pups wanna play with him but he is far too alloof to playing with them, Lady owner says he is same with all puppies until they grow up a bit and then he wants to play!

There is another lass who comes with a boxer, rotty, dober' cross. i am not sure who has more energy owner or pet?smile

I have added a few more videos to youtube now of the girls in the park, things seem to be going well, they are both starting to realise that outside is also good for a toilet not always inside, although i still get gifts from themhmm
This afternoon was really great seeing Coira out of her shell and a lot more confident to play with the other dogs, i think the warmth and sunshine helped a lot

but time for bed now, hope you enjoy the pics and vids i shall endeavour to keep them coming as it happens

oh and one last pic this is after an hour or so playing in both dog parks, big dog and small dog ones. stoped at a friends Cafe for a cuppa on the way home, the twins just collapsed in the middle of the floor and slept

The are looking good, so fast now. I'm glad they have space to play in, we could do with some of those dog parks here. Don't know about that bird with the bare legs and the short skirt, she must be freezingbiggrin

i must agreethat these dog parks are great, you can relax and have a sit down on the many benches about or even some picnic tables in some of them. although these turn into grooming tables but you can just let them run free and socialise with other pooches

I'd be so much happier if I had access to a Tigger-proof park. The idea of a park that's secure with benches etc sounds like heaven.

Love the videos - they are having such a blast. aww.gif They still have that gangly look that cracks me up but they are just so cute. aww.gifaww.gif

Love the Saluki - I've always had a bit of a soft spot for them. That's a very handsome chap. biggrin.gif

Well in the last three days we have bumped into another two Scottish deerhounds!! the first a lady dog called Fiona, she is the owners 4th Deerhound and she has never met another owner by chance in the 14years or so of ownership. She lives 14km out of the city and just decided to take a tram and metro into town to train the dog on saturday. by coincidence just happened into the dog park i was in with the girls=)
I am not sure who was happier to see another deerhound her or I? Then on todays walk i met a man with a big handsome chap called Laphroaig again a very surprised person to meet not just another one but two. Laphroaig was not so keen on the pups not very maternal at all me thinks.

We have had some low points with Coira being sick for a few days last week but all has settled down again. i shall post the pictures later of the growed up puppies we met.

Oops seems i forgot to add these pics and vid although i am sure you are starting to get bored of them by now but hey ho i persevere anyway. Last weekend we met a growed up as i said so here are the pics and vid to prove it.

They were both perfect examples of hounds, with no blemishes on their record for selective deafness! Fiona was two days shy of being a year older so still quite playfull and happy like a puppy

and here is the big lad Laphroaig

Finland must be bursting at the seams with the shaggy mutts, chap shouted "look at the elkhound puppy" when I was in Edinburgh with Bryn, "You normally see them in Finland" he spouted to his mateweirdfaceHe didn't hang about so I could correct him, it was spooky to hear Bryn and Finland in the same sentence.blankstare

Well its not so much the Twins anymore as i only have Coira now although we meet up with Edina on regular walks to try and wear them out, We had 8" snow the other night and coira sems to love jumping around in this, the deeper the drift the better not to mention the sticking my face in it then snorting loudly as she brings it back out! this provides much hilarity for me.

here is a snap i managed to get in a brief moment of her sitting still in the dog park. she seems to like playing with a wire haired daschhund i keep trying to encourage her towards the proper dogs but to no avail.

The owner of Fiona the Scottishdeerhound above has been in touch and we have arranged to meet in the park the morra efty at 1300, i shall try to take the good camera for some decent pics.

I was just looking through the pics at the top and its amazing just how much they have grown, from them lying on the sofa with their bums at the back and head to the front, now they dont fit like thatweirdface
