Lurker says hello..
Permalink Closed

Been reading the forum for a few weeks now and thought it was about time I introduced myself.

A lifelong lover of Longdogs as they were always a part of my family and extended family in the Fife area.

I was the serving wench to a whippet for 12 years. He.. ( Nooty..) travelled all over the country and Germany when I married a forces man. Noot even had to do the compulsory quarantine when we were posted back to the UK. The sad thing though is.. he was stolen in the Tidworth area a few months after he came out of quarantine, just when a little whippet won Crufts that year.

I also had a rescue grey for over 8 years. A lovely black lass called Bessie. She was originally rescued in the Oxford area by a young family with two young kiddies. Unfortunately at a time when their marriage was breaking down and they separated. The lass who rescued her knew I loved greys asked me if I would take her as she was moving into a high rise flat and wouldn't cope with two young children as well.

We knew we were moving to Germany again, but, Bessie came too, and back again. Thankfully Passports for Pets had been introdiced and as she'd been chipped and innoculations were up to date she was able to drive through customs with us no problem.

Bessie had been a brood bitch and was so fat and unfit, the first walk we took her on saw the other half carrying her back to the car.... much to the amusement of the other dog walkers around.. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

She passed away a few years ago, much loved.

Both Bessie and Noot were almost celebrities in the areas we lived in Germany. Every walk we took people would stop and talk to us about them. "Das ist windhund ya ?" or "springendehunde" was the usual question. I have to say I never met anyone with a Grey in any of the areas we lived in Germany in all the 8 years and five different areas there.

I contacted GAL a few weeks ago with a view to adopting a Grey. Tomorrow (Sat 1st March ) I have a home visit arranged and can hardly contain myself.

I'm living by the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond now and have seen a few Greys being walked in the area. Might one of you live in the area ?

Looking forward to reading and posting..... and updating events after "The Visit.." aww.gif

Hi folks. Thanks for your replies.

Visit with Linda and one of her gorgeous foster dogs went well and talks will be had this week with a view to gaining a new member of the family next weekend hopefully. ( tries to contain excitement... smile.gif )

I wont say which dog until it's all signed and sealed as it's with a lovely fosterer who may not have heard about us being happy to take it yet. Though she's very welcome to update you all with the news.

Reading through the forum though the dog seems to quite well known and thought of.

Hope all are prepared to be swamped ( and bored to bejeeees.. ) with pictures and video.

More soon... smile.gif

Hi There

We are the proud "parents" of 7 dogs: 6 greyhounds and 1 lurcher and we stay in Loch Lomond. Our dogs are walked in Balloch Park every day and love meeting other greys. PM us and we can arrange a meet. Two of our boys were GAL foster dogs who we fell in love with, and the 2 pups (Woody & Bunny) were through GAL although we got them from another rescue centre.

AbbeysDad.. Linda mentioned there was a family with 7 longdogs here by the Loch.. Glad to read your post and hope at some time to meet up with you and have a natter and socialise the dogs.

My personal email is myggz@gmail.com. Hope you get in touch if only to give me the chance to meet up on a walk and see and chat about the breed.

7 of em eh.. what can I say.. extrordinaire grey advocates.. A dream scenario and one to which many grey lovers would love to aspire to.. Well done you..

Nice to read you.. smile.gif

Thanks for the welcome all.. He really is a "big man" Tandemsandy.. He covers a fair amount of floor space and I had about 4 inches of bed to myself when I woke up one morning to find I was "sharing" it with him... smile.gif
