My father died yesterday morning. He was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, so we knew this was coming, but the sudden end was still a great shock.

Anyway, Claire and I (and therefore the GAL shop) are going to be a bit difficult to get hold of in the next few days.

A few people round GAL did know about Dad's illness, and I've been grateful for the sympathy and support I've received, especially from Denise. Thanks, guys - it really has helped.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss - even if you know it is coming- your heart is never ready for it!

Hi Graham
Having now discovered that my husband knew your father, he has asked me to put the following tribute on the forum:

"I was sorry to hear of your father's death. I knew him for many years through the Caledonian Philatelic Society. He was an eminent philatelist and was always willing to give of his time and share his knowledge. I often hear others refer to his excellent book on GB Postal History which has become the standard reference on that subject. However, it was not just for his knowledge that he was so highly regarded within the Society, but for his very friendly and helpful manner.

My heartfelt sympathy to you and to your family.
