OK, so heres the thing. This month my food order contained Arden Grange chicken dry food for the dog and the cats. So technically they are getting the same flavour in their bowls. Why on earth is my cat eating the dog food?? Brook never finishes a meal and likes to leave some in her bowl, but recently my cat, Pepper, has been caught eating the dog food out of her bowl a few times!!
Arden Grange, just too tasty!!
Anybody else had anything similar or any explanation?
When I was younger my dad had two cats and fed them tinned dogfood because it was cheaper than catfood -they loved it and it didn't seem to do them any harm! It may just be the grass is greener syndrome. Mason is a right fusspot about his dryfood and won't touch anything but Arden Grange, yet he happily cleaned out the bowl of a fellow greyhound owner who gives his Bakers Choice. Of course I didn't appreciate what came out of him later that evening Marie
On the cat front though, the reason cat food is more expensive is becasue it contains Taurine, which can only be obtained from animal derivatie products - if thats the right phrase. Basically cats need to eat the bits of other anmals to get Taurine as a lack of this can lead to serious health problems, including blindness. It technically means your dog can be veggie, but from what I have read your cat cannot.
Now before a big influx of messages come in I am aware your can get veggie cat food, but personally I would rather feed them regular diet so I know they are getting everything they need.
Our cat, Cisco, regularly eats out of the dogs' bowls, but only if they're watching. I think it's his way of saying "you may be bigger, but I'm in charge". Zak seems to believe him, too...
I always wondered why catfood was more expensive. One of my dad's cat was called Oedipus and we always believed it had a complex Maybe it was the lack of taurine that made it paranoid? Marie
