Maggie was at the vet yesterday, nothing serious we thought, she had a bit of a niggle that was making her yelp a bit from time to time ,she had a good going over from the vet and was prescribed some metacalm, she had a wee walk, ate her tea,had her bedtime bikkie just the norm.A different Maggie met us this morning she fell down at the front door, couldn't get up,she fell in the kitchen and sittingroom, she had tremours and her back legs just would not support her she panicked and cried when she couldn't get up her breathing was really fast and she was just so stressed, she was taken into our vet and remains there, she may have a brain tumour, her liver isn't quite right she had that when she first arrived here. She had tremours all day until about 6pm this evening, the vet couldn't believe the change in her after only 24 hrs.He said tonight that she was finally able to have a wee snooze, but her front legs are rigid and her back legs just can't hold her,she may have more tests to check her liver function, she is hating being away from home, and from Hero,Hero does not what is going on Beckett left and now no Maggie,I feel sorry for him,Maggies eyes are not flickering but appear dull and she has been so stressed by everything, she's on steroids and anti-biotics and we will have to wait and see what tomorrow brings, will be phoning the vet in the morning, fingers crossed we can at least get her strong enough to come home. She's a strong character, some of you will remember when she escaped from her foster home and lived wild in the hills of Helensburgh for about a week,I hope she doesn't lose her fighting spirit,to lose a third dog in as many months would be too much to bear.
Oh Rachel, I'm so sorry to hear maggie's so poorly, it must be very tough so soon after Becket. Will keep everything crossed she picks up overnight. Marie x
The strange coincidence is just before I read this, I was searching the forum for tips on keeping a dog cool in a car and came across 'Operation Maggie' about rescuing her from her escapade in the wild. A dog of such strength will have good fight in her, I'm sure. Fingers crossed that she gets better soon.
We brought Maggie home this morning for the time she has left, she's delighted to be home and Hero's chuffed to have his pal home, she cannot get up un aided, though she can use her front legs, her back legs don't support her,our vet is pretty sure it is a brain tumour,so once again Eddie and I are spending all our spare time with a much loved dog trying not to think of the inevitable. We have our vets blessing to have her home for the weekend,he'll see her again on Monday, unless she deteriorates over the weekend,we are just glad to have her here she is still showing some of her fighting spirit, she's having steroids and anti-biotics and she's not incontinent,we are feeding her all sorts of nice things as the steroids are making her hungry. We're just taking things one hour at a time, thanks for all your wishes.we're very fortunate to have great vets, and they have a 24hr.Emergency service so we know help is always at hand. Will let you know how it goes.
Oh rachel how awful, I hope that things work out for poor maggie. I am so pleased she was able to come home to you all. We are thinking of you so much. If I can help at all just say I am only a ferry away. Love and hugs sandy and redster
Oh, Rachel, I'm so sorry to that Maggie is so unwell. Poor girl and poor you, as you've had alot of heartache in the past few months. One hour at a time is the best of way of thinking; pity it couldn't be one day at a time though. Hugs to the lovely Maggie from all of us and our thoughts are with you.
Just an update on Mags, she's been happy and comfy at home over the weekend, attempts to get her to stand on her own have not been successful, she's very vocal, which is nice, even if I'm knackered running after her day and night, only joking, our vet saw her this evening and I had gone there thinking I didn't want to carry on with the drugs but he is keen to carry on a few more days as Maggie still has reflex in her legs, she will never be better but if she could at least have some use of her hind legs that would be better than me having to help her around.I'm very much a realist and know not to look beyond the next day,I know come the weekend decisions will have to be made but we and Maggie will keep positive and treasure every second we have together. Thanks again for your thoughts and wishes.
I've just caught up with this thread. So sorry to hear about Maggie. But she has a great fighting spirit as you say. Fingers crossed that everything works out for her and both of you and Hero, of course. We're all thinking of you here.
fingers crossed that she improves that wee bit. The weather is so nice at the mo are you able to get her out to sit in the sun? I do hope so. love and hugs
