Spring in the air?

Okay I know its Spring and everythings a bit frisky but Mason appears to have developed some major 'issues' with the boys!
He's always been a little exciteable about female dogs who are either coming into or out of season and, yes there was an incident with Rufus and Stumpy, which put a question mark over his sexuality, but in his defence he was not the only boy who found the lads a little alluring.
Recently however he's got a bit too frisky too often.
In the last three weeks we've met a two-year-old male greyhound who had him chattering his teeth and desperately trying to mount, an older lurcher boy who did not take kindly to his affection and today a greyhound male who we meet all the time who again had him drooling and chattering.
I don't know if its frustration or springtime but its a little worrying.
The old lurcher's owner kept saying to me 'he's not trying anything, they're both boys' but I know the signs - the pricked ears, chattering teeth and droolingweirdface.gif
What's going on??

Could just be spring, or the whiff of dogs coming in to season all over the place. Bryn is just finding out about S E X he was standing over Bella yesterday going through the motions, while chewing her tail (he was facing the wrong way) Bella wandered off and left Bryn looking at his own back end as if to say "why is it doing that?" Bella and Bess are quick to show the boy the connection between 'humpy' motion and getting his face chewed. He doesn't seen very interested in S E X now.biggrin

I think the S word is in the air - although not sure if it is Spring or Sex! My boys seem to be sniffing more into the wind than normal. And I've checked it's not as if they are doing it because they have passed the gas either! I think every dog is very happy that spring is here and may be that means alittle more sex too?

Anyone else have a few "happy" boys out there?

I hadn't thought about the scent of those in season but I know at least three girls from our regular circle are at that time just now and are in the park every day so I guess it could be that. It certainly takes forever to walk around the park just now because every blade of grass has to be sniffed excessively.
Poor boy must be going nutssmile.gif But he's clearly confused tonight we met Nell and Frankie - two greyhounds belonging to a new GAL foster volunteer. Mason ignored Nell but showed a little too much interest in Frankieconfused.gif
I've seen him get a serious knockback from girls in the past, maybe he just thinks the boys have less bite??

In his defence my two get this all the time, maybe it's cos they are quite small for greys, and Stumpy is a bit girlie looking and my brother's dog is rediculous with him, either gazing at him or humping him, poor wee scone. Very entertaining at family get togethers.

Or maybe he's just gay? Can that happen? Hmm lets see, he is very fit and attractive, takes pride in his appearance, good to his Mother, doesn't like going out in the rain, maybe in case it musses up his hair. You should do a test, see how he reacts to Barbara Striesand, Judy Garland songs, does he cry at Lassie. Does he watch what he eats, does he relax when you light scented candles, perhaps offered some advice when you were decorating your flat. Hee hee.
Ok sensible head now, is it not thought of as a dominance thing? If he is only doing it to males than that maybe it. Maybe he's just a very dominant dog. My friend who is a behaviourist says that we (us people) don't always realise who the dominant dogs are, it's almost never the growling barking ones but the laid back ones. Isn't he a pretty chilled boy?

If it gets bad ask to borrow Bella and Bess for a day, that'll sort it.

Mine aren't doing this, never have, they are completely sexless.

LOL, I'll put Yentl on tonightbiggrin
It can be a dominance thing and he does occasionally do that but the chattering teeth and drooling is very def. a sign of a different intent.
Poor lad!

Had great walk this morning along the beach then dunes and into woods, but my god were my two fiesty. Rufus was eyeballing every large male and blocking their path and Stumpy had a go at collie. I was hauling them off apologising like mad, everyone was very surprised when I told them how old Rufus was as he was strutting his stuff like a young un.They also had a lot of dogs "interested" in them, and I got asked "are they coming into season" by one particular dogs owner as his would NOT leave them alone, and as my two were on the lead they were going nuts. He was gobsmacked when I told them they were blokes. What is it with my two?

I'll be glad when spring fever is over. There are also a lot of bird fights going on, we had to duck as two crows were battling in the air.

Update: Mason got a taste of his own medicine this evening when a Rhodesian Ridgeback called Rugby decided he quite fancied getting his leg over my boybiggrin.gif
Poor Mason was less than impressed, particularly when the woman with Rugby (who was walking him for his owner and knows us because her own Springer is a daycare pal of ours) suddenly handed me his lead and walked off to pick up her boy's poo.
Suddenly I found myself holding two big boys, one of whom wanted to hump the other, it was a little tense and I still marvel at her stupiditywink.gif
However no blood was lost and I was given a confidence boost by my ability to avert disaster.
Mason is recovering well from the slur on his manhoodsmile.gif

Cara was trying to tempt Bess today, Bess not interested, and keen to keep as far away from 'The Tramp' as pos. Bryn very suspicious of his ma being nice to him, he sculked off to his kennel wondering why she wasn't trying to chew his face off for being in her spaceweirdfaceBryn seems to have lost all 'humpy' thoughts for the moment (thanks to the ugly sisters, thats what hubby calls Bella n Bess)
So much for keyhole surgery for Cara, no one round here does it. I will have to wait til her present state calms down now anyway. I hope I can catch her before she gets the urge againfurious

Poor Cara, maybe she and Mason should have some quality time alone to remind them both of the different sexes, LOL. At least you know there would be know piebald/deerhound cross type pupsbiggrin.gif
Its a shame no-one does the keyhole surgery, have you asked the DickVet in Edinburgh? I know its a distance but it may be worth it for peace of mind.

Dick vet don't do it, I asked a prof. from there and he said there were a couple in Glasgow, but it wasn't popular in Scotland. He couldn't see the point, "just open them up and take it all out"hmm Not so much skill required for non keyhole stuff.

Hows the house flogging goingconfused

That's a nice approach, nothmm.gif
House flogging same as. No offers and time is tickinging away, I've got a bit more c'est la vie about it just now. It'll happen when it happens and there is nothing I can do about it.
Think positive thoughts please and thanks for askingsmile.gif
