Dog friendly pubs!

Dont you just love them!! With summer rearing its head sometime soon, hopefully...I dont know about you but I love to go for massive walks in the country with the dog & whichever friends/family I can rustle up. There is nothing nicer than a cold pint after 2-3 hrs hiking, but what do you do with the dog?? ~ Sooo many places dont let them over the door so I thought we could maybe exchange knowledge so folk can look this up b4 their weekend walks & route plan if they too share the same pleasure of a sunny afternoon....*hic*

I live in Edinburgh & the only 2 places I know of at the moment are :

The Steading' bar/restuarant at the bottom of Hillend Ski slopes.

'The Stable Bar' at the back of Mortonhall Garden Centre, Fairmilehead.

(both have roaring log fires in the winter too to curl up in front of ...the dog that is, unless YOU have 1 too many . Both also have water bowls to hand...) & both serve human food *hmmm says Murphy - chips!!*

Sounds wonderful, Suzanne! I'll have to do some research over our way. There are many pubs where you can sit outside on a summer's night and they don't seem to mind well behaved dogs being there. But then you have to contend with the midgies and their huge fangs. Roaring fire, pint in hand, contented dog at feet - yes I could do with some of that!

The Wee Bush in Carnwath is doggie friendly although I think they have an age limit on 4 legged friends after the last time I was in with Puppy Douglas and he had a little accident (of the No. 2 variety..)

The Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo, Fife. Absolutely great in summer. There are tables outside right next to the harbour and its in the Fife Coastal Route so you either stop off there on your walk or make that your final destination. The beach is on hand for the dogs to cool off in and in the summer there always a good group of people there. The bar lunches are good too!

Hi all

The Weston Tavern in Kilmaurs used to allow dogs though haven't been for a while (the landlord used to be the landlord in one of the pubs in Kilbarchan).

Unfortunately neither of the 2 pubs in Kilbarchan will allow dogs as they serve food.

On a slightly different topic - Hotels wise we have taken the dogs to Travel Lodges (although Travel Inns don't take them) & I think they charged £5 per night per dog.  Having stayed in an Express by Holiday Inn in Perth, they told me that they take dogs (they are great value for money).

If anyone would like to go to Gloucestershire/Forest of Dean on hols, we stayed in Pine Lodges in the CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) Whitemead Park In Parkend near Lydney (they also take caravans and tents).  It's great for walks in the forest - be careful of the livestock though.  Although I am a member of the Association, I think it is open to non-members.  There is a great village pub there with a roaring fire and great food that also allows dogs I think it's called the huntsman (unfortunately) or something similar.

Hi all!

Our local pub, The Clachan Bar, Strachur (where?????   I hear you all shout) is very dog friendly (some nights there are more dogs than people in!!)  and even keeps chew sticks behind the bar  (they used to keep biccy bones but one of our dogs didn't like them so they changed to chew sticks!!!   Service or what!?!).   So if you're ever out and about in Cowal.....!

Cheers!

Jean

Hi Jean

That sounds wonderful why can't more pubs be like that. Will be sure to call in if we are ever in the area.

Hi - a wee bit further out but try Glentress forest for dog walks - about 40 mins form Edinburgh near Peebles - some great trails and you can finish off with good food in the Hub cafe which is on site.

Lots of mountain bikers and other walkers but once out on the waymarked trails you don't see too many folk around. Good atmosphere, good food and dog friendly. The folk that run the cafe have wee dogs running around mostly.

We've taken Pearly down there and she likes the forest trails.

I'll add a thread about this to the info pages so you all have the list to hand if you need it.

Hi

The Golf Hotel bar in Crail welcomed me in and I got a nice chew stick from the barmaid! I got plenty claps from my new admirers so I must have been looking really handsome this weekend when we were there! They all said I was a braw dug.

We were staying at a super place called Troustrie House which is a luxury Georgian farmhouse 2-3 miles outside Crail. The people there welcomed me too and made a fuss of me. Mum and Dad said it's a perfect and very comfortable place to go for a couple of nights B&B where you want peace and quiet and you can take well-behaved dogs for an additional small fee. The breakfast menu had everything you could think of and were absolutely delicious and Mum says she'd have to get our front door widened if she stayed there any longer! They're on the web so it's worth looking the place up if you intend to go to the East Neuk of Fife for a break!

This is a very interesting challenge to find 'dog friendly pubs'!  I see Suzanne that you have posted on here a couple of times, and in such a good cause!

I do like this idea and I think I may add this to my to do list, as no one has mentioned many suitable pubs over my neck of the woods.  Like you Suzanne I do thorough research however, in order for this to work, I may have to borrow a dog!  (A guide dog would be preferable in order that I get back home).

If anyone cares to join me in this pursuit please contact me or check your local pubs for me. All areas covered.

Ps Someone remember to bring the dog

...and those not joining you, could sponsor you on how many dog friendly pubs you find - all proceeds to GAL of course! LOL borrowing a guide dog is a VERY good idea!!
