hi we are the proud "parents " of Bovril he's been with us a wee while , Iwas wondering about Injections for him he is 5 now dont know his history before he came to us ,also worming him do you buy the tablets at the Vets or a petshop if so what kind hope someone can help thanks.
Hiya - congrats on your new arrival!! If you have no history on him then I would definitely get him vaccinated regardless as soon as you can - your vet will know which vacc to give him - this is fairly standard will all rescue dogs where there is no history of vacc's best just to vaccinate anyway - doesnt do them any harm. I would definitely worm & use flea treatment on him as soon as as well.
Through the forum Ive found that most folk, like myslelf use DRONTAL PLUS wormer for their greys & FRONTLINE spot on flea treament - both avail at the vets. DONT buy the stuff out of pet shops as it really isnt remotely effective!!
Worming should be done every 3 mths & flea preventative should be ideally done every 2 mths (unless you live in moorland etc in which case it should be more of a monthly basis...)
Hope that helps...
ps, be warned for him crying like a baby when he gets his injections - you would think someone was cutting Murphys leg off with a blunt knife when he gets his done - screams like a big girl!!

Hi, Denbri - if Bovril is who I think he might be, Steve and I met him up at the kennels. Was he called Boverick, or something similar? He's a poppet! We met his previous family whilst walking the dogs at Kelty. Reading between the lines, we think they'd gotten him from his previous trainer so they could race him again ("He really want to race, you can see it"). They said to us that he was great with their kids, even the baby, but handed him over that very day saying that he kept attacking the bairn. What?! Anyone with half an eye could see that he was just a soft lollopy lad who wanted some cuddles. He played lovely with Pearly in the paddock, and what speed when he thought she was catching him! Anyway, we were very glad that we'd very carefully and clearly in a casual kind of way told them all about GAL and how they were a specialist greyhound rescue just up the road, right over there, not far away at all........
I doubt that they'll have vaccinated him, to be honest. His nails were really, really long and he was very thin when we saw him. Doesn't suggest that they knew how to take care of him. Sorry if this sounds judgemental. I don't mean it to be (I think!!!).
Anyway, if all this doesn't relate to Bovril cos I've got the wrong doglet then..... ach, well.
Fiona yes you were right it is Bovrick ! He has fairly come out of his shell now he is sleeping on our bed as i write ,hes put on lots of weight his coat is lovely and thick even the curls! He is a big softy hates when you've sat on "his"chair.
He loves to run of the leash but we have to be really sure theres no rabbits or squirrels around or we would never see him for weeks!
He groans like an old man at times its really funny but oh my god the smells!!
Suzanne thanks for your help i will get him sorted asap.
Hey its me again I've got lots of pics but am very computer ignorant how can I upload them,by the way he's had the worm tablets took them like sweets! Hey Ithink I've cracked it just go to yahoo.com look in photos you should find pics of Bovril.
Hi Brian and welcome to the forum! As with most dogs that come into GAL's care we have no history of Bovrils vaccinations, as he is an ex-racer he would have been vaccinated when he was a puppy and possibly afterwards but there would have been no paper trail, best bet is to just get him started off again at your vets!
And to reiterate the advice already given, get your wormers and flea treatment from your vets, the stuff in the pet shops is ineffective at best, total waste of money!
