After meeting Jamie at Strathaven on 7th May we have decided to foster. Our eldest daughter Lori held onto him for the 4 hours we were there and sneakily took him for a walk any time potential adopters appeared on the scene! She fell in love with him immediately and we have been nagged ever since about him! ( Have to admit we all fell in love with him) Anyway we are picking him up tomorrow after school so it'll now be a 3 doglet, 1cat, 3fish, 4kids household!! We must be mad!!!

Will keep you all posted as to how it goes.

We (read "I") fell in love with Barney as soon as Denise thrust the lead into my hand so I know exactly how you feel - you are not mad at all!!  and doubt you will regret the decision!  And I was the one who wasn't keen on a third dog!!

Barney has only been part of our household for 2 days and seems already if he has always been there!!  We were initially going to foster him, but after going back for a second look after the awareness day, and taking him for a long walk with Freddy & Wilma, we decided just to adopt him!!

That's us up to 2 adults, 2 kids, 3 dogs, 1 rabbit, 1 hamster (that Barney hasn't spotted yet!!) and 3 fish.

Will no doubt see you soon.

Great news, Shirley and Jim. Jamie's a lovely boy and I'm sure he'll settle in fine! I don't think you're mad at all - but you may need a bigger house soon!

Looking forward to seeing you all again.

It's great to hear about Jamie.  When we were at Strathaven you thought he might end up going home with you.

Well Jamie has now arrived in Bridge of Weir! We picked him up at about 5 o'clock and what a welcome we got! He was all fresh after his bath and settled into the car nicely for the trip home. He has obviously never been in a house before and was very excited at all the new spaces to explore(he even watched the telly for a while!!). We had a couple of dribbles in the living room...thank goodness we have laminate flooring..but the hot dogs worked a treat and the garden has been well marked!! He said hello to Smudge the cat but has only given him a passing glance since. He had a bit of an unsettled night..obviously could'nt beleive his luck that he had space and lots of warmth to sleep in..so Jim stayed downstairs with him to help him settle!! I think Jamie got the better sleep!! He's also a real thief - if it doesn't move he tries to eat it..he demolished his breakfast so quickly we thought he'd found a straw somewhere and inhaled the whole lot in one go!! Jim also nearly lost a slice of toast between the toaster and the plate this morning so Catriona our 5 year old is holding everything above her head (where possible of course!) He is much more content today and since the weather is nice he has been out the back taking in some rays..although if you're not fast you're last for a space on the bed!!

We're totally besotted already and I'm sure he'll become as content as Gambol and Keera in no time.

Will keep you all posted as to his progress

Well Jamie has been with us for 5 days now and he has settled in exremely well. His true nature is really coming to the fore and the best way to describe him is as a 'LAID BACK THIEF'!! Jim had just put a pound of cooked mince into a dish to cool down that was supposed to be for their tea but the minute Jim went to pick up Gambol and Keeras dishes the bold boy wolfed the lot!! The  dish was licked clean..not a crumb left!! Off he went to his bed totally satisfied for a good sleep! He has also dicovered where we keep their big bag of food and their biscuits so we have to make sure the door is closed at all times or he just goes and helps himself!! His table manners are also beginning to show signs of improvement..which has certainly helped with our digestion as we were eating almost as quickly as he does!

He loves his walks and is not pulling on the lead now.He saw a rabbit yesterday but didn't show as much excitement as Gambol and Keera who were straining to just get the chance to go after it! I think he is also beginning to learn how to play..he's been watching Gambol and Keera very closely and joins in occassionally. All that said he is a lovely friendly boy who adores the kids and loves his cuddles. Will post a picture when I figure out how to do it!!

Hi Shirley and Jim

So glad Jamie is settling in well with you all. At least now you know he likes mince! I'll bet all edibles in your house are kept locked up now. He sounds a real sweetie and I'm looking forward to meeting him. Isn't it great that the other dogs are teaching him how to play? He'll be having a whale of a time. Good luck to you all.

Well Jamie has been with us for almost 3 weeks now ...although it feel like he's always been here.He has settled in really well and has adapted to life in a house remarkably quickly. He is a really laid back boy - he has his wild moments too - who just loves to be cuddled. It is so nice when we come in to see a furiously wagging tail..I love it when I almost get knocked down by the 3 of them coming to welcome me! He is still, however, the BIGGEST thief in the world!! I lost a slice of toast at the weekend but I suppose it wasn't held high enough above my head! I dread to think what the neighbours think of the McWilliams family walking about with their arms upstretched but it's the only way to keep your food!!

He has also learned the finer arts of tearing around the garden at top speed with Gambol and Keera..grass I have to say is now a dim and distant memory!! It's a pleasure to see him though having fun and he just loves it when the leads are produced for walkies time!!

We will see you all at the Hot Dog show..and watch out the Bowgang Barkers will be there to take 1st place in every category we enter !!

Hi Shirley and Jim

I'll bet the whole family will soon be taking their meals from the highest spots in the room! But it's great that Jamie has settled so quickly with you. The proof of that is the fact that you feel he's always been with you when he's stayed with you such a short time. The big man sounds as if he's having great fun and taken to home living like a duck to water and that's wonderful.

Hope to see you all at the Hot Dog Show on Saturday.

Christine

Thought it was about time for an update on Jamie! We've had him for just over 2 months now and it feels like he's always been here!

Some of you may remember he helped us win the Happiest Family at the GAL Hot Dog day where he was also 3rd in the male sighthound competition..what a handsome boy he is!!

While we were on holiday he went to stay with Rachel and Eddie and of course was extremely well looked after. Gambol and Keera went to my Mum and Dad (didn't think they'd be able to cope with 3 dogs!!). When we took Jamie back home he got a great welcome from Gambol and Keera...much tail wagging and ear licking!   He had absolutely no problems settling back in and my eldest Lori is so much happier now she has her 3 pooches with her on a daily basis again...she really missed them on holiday

He had another really big day yesterday though...a visit to the vet to have his 'bits' removed!! OUCH!  It was really hard to leave him there as he was looking at us as if to say 'I remember the last time I was at the vet and I didn't like it (he was half an hour away from being PTS by his trainer before GAL stepped in) However leave him we did and at about 1600 Jim went to pick him up. He was naturally still quite groggy and had a nice light tea before settling down to sleep. He is much better today.. almost back to his normal self and hopefully he'll soon make a full recovery.

The next big milestone will be his 3rd birthday next month .     Wonder what he'll wish for and get for that   Will let you all know!!

Shirley

Hope Jamie is well on the road to recovery after having his pockets picked. It must have been very hard for you to leave him at the vets but he will soon be forget all about it. I'm sure a pig's ear and some sardines will help fog his memory!

Lets hope for his 3rd birthday he hears that a forever home is soon to be his.

Hi Shirley

Hope Jamie feels better soon - I'm sure it won't be long until he's back to his normal self. It sounds as if Gambol and Keera missed him too, when he was at Rachel and Eddie's. And now he has his birthday to look forward to - he's a very lucky boy!
