Any info on Jasmine?
Permalink Closed

Hi there

I was just wondering if anyone has any information on Jasmine the greyhound situated at Bothwell Bridge?

Thanks

Jasmine was cat tested on Saturday at Bothwell Bridge, after a cursory sniff at cat she went and lay down at the other end of the room.

As we had a foster home ready and willing to take a poss. cat safe dog she was duly collected from the SSPCA today and is now being fostered in a home with 1 cat, 1 labrador, 1 child and two adults.

When I spoke to her foster mum tonight (a first time greyhound foster home) she was utterly gobsmacked at how Jasmine had walked in and made herself immediately at home.

So far she has enjoyed her two walks with Brodie, snucked up onto the settee, pinched a chocolate biscuit wrapper, thoroughly explored her acre of garden and spent most of the afternoon dozing on the rug in front of the fire (which isn't lit).  She hasn't met the cat yet, he's been sleeping on top of the fridge freezer.

Very, very early days obviously, the next couple of weeks should show us the true Jasmine.

Denise.

Thank goodness that's another one out of kennels! Well done to Jasmine's new foster parents. The picture of her really tugged on the old heart strings!

She sounds a lovely girl, very relaxed already. Let us know whether the cat ever comes down from the fridge freezer so Jasmine can meet her properly!

Hi

Jasmine was safely cat tested last Saturday - She passed and  has now gone to a GAL foster home.

But as you know, no sooner than we manage to rehome the greyhounds and lurchers from SPCA at Bothwell, then more are brought in.

But  great   progress - we now have a GAL volunteer at Bothwell every Saturday. I'm there every 4th week  and we get 1 or 2 greyhounds / lurchers out of kennels. They get to spend day out with us in the Bothwell grounds  - with ' I need Home' coat on.  Meet the people who want a dog

They sell themselves - once out chilling out - on grass if sunny - on duvet in reception when wet and cold.

thanks so much for passing on that information.

I'll probably go down to Bothwell next Saturday or Sunday because I've never actually been before.

Its great that Gal Volunteers go down there to help out.I admire them so much. You do such a great job.

Thanks again!

Getting to Bothwell won't be a bundle of laughs though!!

We already went down a few weeks ago but we got completely lost and ended up going home.

Better luck this time!

Hi

Yip - it's easy to get lost -

M74  to juncton 5  - then route to Bothwell/ Hamilton A725 then B7071 Bothwell Rd   - easiest way  SPCA is next to Hamilton Racetrack  Follow Race Track Signs

Charles

ps Bothwell is for the strong hearted  - the rows of dogs behind bars are very heart wrenching

Hi Manda

Jasmine has now met the cat and foster mum reports she was a perfect angel.  Absolutely no problem even when cat made a dash for it right past her nose. Bless.

Between you and me I think foster mum is already succumbing to the charms of this wonderful breed.

Far be it from me to suggest Dawn organises a blind date between McGinty and Jasmine.  Would I do such a thing?  Never!!

Just one problem, neither of them have been done So someone will have to play gooseberry

Hi all

Your information is very helpful.I was thinking about getting a greyhound that is catsafe and Jasmine sounds perfect but i'd need to go home at lunch or get a friend or family to keep an eye on them when im not there.

OOOH I say another dog and potential girlfriend for Mac possibly Denzel safe!!! Too much to wish for in one week surely??
Denzel constantly makes a mad dash past Mac and has even tried taking a swipe at him, but he just wags his tail. I think he is laughing at Den's poor attempt at 'speed'!! He has that glint in his eye syaing 'I could catch you if I really wanted too, but your just not my type'! Denzel jumped up on the sofa beside Mac the other night, which was heartstopping as Mac swung round to look at him, but once again Mac just turned away, then Denzel sat with his back to him for the next ten mins. I think Den was trying to tell Mac that he will sit where he wants when he wants. So far I haven't had the courage to leave the two of them together unattended, only cos I don't trust Den, but I'm sure the day is not too far off.
I think we need 3 categories for future GAL dogs: Not Cat Safe, Cat Safe and Denzil Proof!!
One thing is for sure, its such a pleasure to see my two best friends standing/sitting near to each other and neither batting an eye lid.
I will be keeping a close eye on Jasmine, who if anything like Mac will make a wonderful pet.
Dawn

Hi Greyhoundluvver,

If you manage to get along to Bothwell Cat & Dog Home, do have a chat with the GAL volunteers about what you have in mind.  They will give you info about greys as pets, the homing procedure, etc, etc, and of course you'll get to meet some.  Yes its a hard place to visit, seeing them behind bars, which doesn't allow their true character to shine through. But as Charles says, the volunteers take them out and you see the best in them with no stress.

Also look at the Events section in the main GAL website, there's plenty events you can come along to and meet heaps more greyhounds and owners

Glad to hear that Jasmine is out of kennels - she looks like such a lovely girl with her big sad brown eyes. Hope she finds a loving home soon.

On another happy note - received my GAL membership yesterday - thank you - look forward to being part of the family - must admit im a little apprehensive as i hear that Dave has this special gift of convincing you that you really could squeeze in another grey!

See you soon

Don't think Dave does too much convincing..the dogs do that themselves! We've went from 1 at the beginning of March to 2 at the beginning of April and by the middle of May we had a foster !! One grey is definitely not enough..you just fall totally in love with them and can't imagine life without them!!
