Bob who has just been renamed Charlie has just entered the house.
He has been totally unfazed by everything today. We arrived back from Strathclyde Park at about 3.30pm and introduced Charlie to the house.
Just tried him on the stairs and is a little reluctant but hopefully we will have this cracked soon. (been up and down twice now 2nd time better than the first).
What a lucky boy - looks like he might have found his forever home already. Just waiting for a home check.
Charlie also had a lovely warm bath and seemed to enjoy it very much. He certainly felt much better after getting rid of all the dirt and grim. He is now such a fluffy wee thing. At least he doesn't feel dirty now and certainly have now got rid of the kennel smells.
He is quite relaxed at the moment (tail not under his butt) though gets up for any excuse to have a nosey !
Hope everything goes ok with Charlie tonight Katrina, and fingers crossed for the home check. Even if you only have him for one night at least you'll know you've helped another one on the road to a good home.
Hope everything goes well for Charlie's first night at home. He's a lovely boy and looks like he's settled already! And like Julie says, even if he's not with you for long, you're giving him the best possible start to living in his new home. Good luck and let us know how Charlie is on his first night.
Well that's Charlie's first night. What a real sweetie his is. We've had VERY Little bickering between all the dogs.
We put him in the cage in the kitchen and managed to get 20 mins in bed before he started woofing and wimpering. So his foster mum (me) ended up sleeping on a sunlounger in the kitchen to keep him company. He then had a nice quiet night.
Sorry to disappoint you but overnight was uneventful !
Mind you he stood for a whole two minutes peeing at 7.30 this morning. Poor boy his bladder was a bit full
Well Charlie's second night was far better than his first though I did camp down in the kitchen with him again. Gonna try moving out of the kitchen to the living room tonight - will let you know how things go.
Charlie is settling in well. He is such a quiet boy just seeking a quieter life. He's catching up on much needed sleep ( like most greys do! )
I don't think he's a mean bone in his body there have been next to NO bickering between the four of them. He appears to be making good friends with Missy and is quite happy to lie close (but NOT too close).
He is eating like a horse and pooping like a ...... enough said me thinks !
Charlie walks wonderfully on a lead so much so the lead I have is too long as he walks right next to you and not out front.
The kids are pestering to keep him and I know there will be quite a few broken hearts when he leaves. Still early days to see his real character as yet but one thing for sure he certainly is a fast learner (and the water pistol works wonders). He's stopped jumping on the counter tops in the kitchen and stopped hovering over the top of your dinner plate so onwards and upwards.
We have only had one accident in the house thus far (not tempting fate of course) and that was my fault by neglecting to recall that greys don't finish a dump in one go.
He is also certainly young and older child safe but as most greys go definately NOT FOOD SAFE (keep your worktops food free or get it raised by 18 inches! )
Anyways thats all there is to report so far on our little newbie.
Charlie will soon settle down at night, particularly when he has the company of other dogs.
Now you'll all just have to learn to eat like giraffes! It's funny how they seem to think your dinner is theirs too.
It's great the children have taken to him as well. It'll be great fun for you and them to watch his true character come out. Let us know how he's getting on and hope it won't be too long before you can get back to your own bed!
I might have to go into traction after all these nights on the sun lounger !
Tried sleeping on the sofa bed in the room last night with Charlie in the kitchen and he figured I was too far away within 1 min of puting the lights out (left one on in the kitchen for him) so ended up back on the lounger.
He's started going outside for poops and things by himself so I'm hesitently going to try him sleeping in the room with me without his cage (better to poop in room than bedroom) and IF he makes it over night then maybe I can get back to my own bed sometime soon.
Its the housetraining that is the ONLY thing keeping him separate from the other dogs on a night. Keep your fingers XXXX'd that he will be a good boy tonight.
Well Charlie has taken a step forward last night to be nearly completely integrated into the family.
Charlie was an extremely GOOD BOY last night with no accidents in the living room (however I did punt him out the door until he pooped at quarter past midnight)
It was SO nice for me to have a comfy bed last night and guess he and I will be having the same sleeping arrangements again tonight.
Maybe by next week I can get back to the bed with me hubby - more to the point my comfy double bed - nevermind the hubby
Oh yeah forgot, Charlie was wormed today and is booked in for his vaccinations and a health check on Saturday. He is SUCH a whimp I'd put money on the table he's gonna squeal like a girl !!! (no offence the the girly greys out there !)
OK so Charlie has been wormed - so sign of any thank goodness
He's also been vaccinated today and NO he didn't squeal like a girl - he was a big brave boy! Well done Charlie
Needs to go back in two weeks for the second jag.
He met a small puppy at the vets and wanted to play - NO aggression There was also a cat in a box and he was totally disinterested but thats NOT the same as a moving target !!!
Charlie freaked out yesterday panting, prancing and not settling. After speaking to Denise & Carol we have come to the conclusion a sound triggered a bad memory and thats why he panic'd. He's fine now of course.
Charlie does feel that he has died and gone to heaven particularly when the kids give him ten mins of neck & chin tickling !! He REALLY enjoys that
Got some cracking piccies of Charlie which I'll post onto yahoo soon.
The kids took Missy and Charlie for a short walk to show them off to their friends as one of their friends aunties was interested in getting a dog so put the I need a home coat on and sent them all packing with cards and leaflets.
I noticed on the way up to their friends house that Missy started barking and pulling so guessed she'd seen a cat. Charlie stood there and just looked at the cat and then at Missy and just wondered what all the fuss was about.
oh wow Katrina!!! how much you miss by being away on hols for a week ...... a foster doglet~!!! how exciting!! Glad Charlie is settling in well - Murf n Mais must meet their foster bro v soon - hope you can bring them all to the summer GALA & then to the John ~Muir beach walk...cant wait to meet the big fella!!

They say owners look like their dogs...Im still waiting to morph into a super fit, lean machine with legs up to my armpits...
Just letting you know that Charlie has found his forever home !
The transition from me to the new owner has been absolutely brilliant and I also get to see him everyday - he's a real sweetie.
Borrowed a cage of Esther and Dave yesterday for Marian his new owner but looks like he might just be fine without it which is great.
Marian left him this morning in the livingroom and all the little beggar did was sleep Guess he loves her more than he ever did me no little accidents as yet. He is going for four or more walks a day so I guess he's too tired to consider doing anything naughty!
He has a lovely little rabbit to eat ..... ooooopss play with !!!! though the rabbit isn't so keen to play (I wonder why ???? )
Well I can guarantee that Charlie will be pampered beyound belief until his last breath!
Charlie has had a couple of sleep overs with Marian and he has decided that he'd prefer to sleep downstairs (don't think he's too sure of her staircase yet) and has been more than happy to sleep on his blowup mattress, rugs and pillows - told you he was pampered !!! and yes has been tealeafing tidbits of food here and there !! Cheekie boy !!!
He has landed SO lucky with his new home.
The official handover was to be this coming Friday night but Charlie has settled in SO well I've already done the handover and the next time Charlie is here is only to visit
This means Dave I'm available NOW for another foster dog - just let me know.
