I had just finished reading about poor Lulu and I let our 3 out the back in between showers for a piddle. They came in one by one with Gambol last and I noticed blood all over the floor. Gambol had managed to catch and half pull out his dew claw . A hasty trip to the vets ensued before they closed for the evening...eldest daughter at home having her tea and daughter no.3 at a friends due to be picked up so some hasty re-arranging!! Into vets where she clipped it off and cleaned it up...very loud howling from Gambol I hasten to add!! Back home and great welcome from the other two and Jamie sooo excited to see his pal he piddled on the floor...first accident in ages!! As I'm cleaning that up daughter no.2 gets phone call from friends Gran inviting her over next week...think Gran just wanted a chat with someone as I was on the phone for 20 mins!!! Still not had my tea and now I have to go and collect daughter no.3. Can't cope with any more ..I've been up since 0430 this morning for work...think I need some of Suzannes medicinal wine!!!!
Anyway Gambol seems to be okay and he got a lovely treat for tea and will get loads of cuddles tonight.

Poor Gambol!! It must have been sore. Quite a common injury. Many greyhounds and other working dogs get them amputated as pups so they dont catch them when out and about. Not sure if they still do it though!
Has he got a coloured bandage? To show off?
Hope you are now relaxed after all of the extra hassle.
No he didn't get a bandage at all. Our vet said just to keep it clean and allow it to get better in it's own time. Gambol is cleaning it himself but doesn't seem to be in too much discomfort.
Enjoying the vino!!!

Hope Gambol's dew claw is better soon! And that you are enjoying a glass of the red stuff with your feet up - you certainly deserve it after all the running around.
And Alan - now I know what dew claws are for - scratching areas they can't normally reach! Always wondered why dogs had them.

LOL - get yer own wine!!! poor you & poor wee Gambol!! give him a big hug from me & I will raise my glass to you tonight Shirley & we can syncronise slurps of the grape juice!
Must be silly season for the dogs at the mo - everyones going through an injury faze - I was dancing with Murphy tonight - as you do - him on hind legs - me holding his hands, ahem -paws...& he squeeled - investigated to discover his stopper pad was half hanging off !! God knows when he did that today. Luckily my order of veterinary sharp scissors arrived in the post this morning so one quick snip & the flap was off, wound powder on & we got back to boogying & singing to his fav song by the Boogeypimps....
actually - maybe i should pour that grape juice back into the bottle....

suzanne.....i'd keep downing the wine, clearly murf loves a good dance and i doubt you'd get on the dance floor with him unless you'd had a few !!
seriously tho, hope murf's pad and gambol's claw (or lack of) both heal quickly. makes you wonder how just trotting down the garden for a pee can cause so much damage !
Gambol is doing great..he was a very brave boy at the vets,I was very proud of him. It is starting to grow back in again now so we just keep an eye on his mental spell out the back!!
