BINGO
Permalink Closed

Bingo arrived last night - straight from her temporary home in a garden hut. She was rescued by a young lad from the Armadale Races because she was going to be put to sleep. Unfortunately, I discovered this morning that she is in season - no wonder Rosie has been freaking out since she arrived! Poor Rosie, everytime Bingo goes near her, Rosie's ears are literally pinned to the side of her head and she looks at me as if to say, "get this smelly dog away from me"! Even worse tho', when I took her for a walk this am, Bingo was terribly distressed by the enthusiastic advances of a huge labrador and a bearded collie. Does anyone have any ideas how to minimise the "odours" so that I can walk her without having both my arm and leg broken again by her twisting and leaping?

Hi Carole,

Aparently you can get spray's/lotions to apply, but I've not tried them so don't know if they work. Might be worth asking your vet.

Diluted disinfectant dabbed onto her little flower will reduce such advances.

As a child I remember that our two female labradors used to get this treatment as they were not neutered and my dad used to breed them. When they were in season my dad used to douse them with the diluted disinfectant by just using a J Cloth.

My dad swore by Jeyes Fluid.... but makesure you dilute it well! Most dogs steer clear of that stuff along with many humans too. Definately available in Tesco as I buy it to disinfect my back garden after the dogs have pooped!

You might get a "Wot the heck do ya thing your doing?" type look from your little girl but its better than being followed by all the males in the district.

Cheers
Katz

really sorry Katrina - but I read your thread & freaked.....Im not sure about dogs but i do know for a fact that Jeyes fliud can kill a cat ! - it just needs to walk on a wet surface - get ity on its paws, lick paws...few hours later...dead cat. I kid you not! Therefore I wouldnt advise putting it on your dogs 'bits' either - especially as it will absorb through the mucous membranes much quicker 'down below' PLUS they can reach there to lick it off....

GHs have a much more 'direct into bloodstream' effect with drugs & chemicals due to their lack of fat layer....

please, please, please DONT use Jeyes fluid....sorry Kat - dont mean to offend, even if your dad used it years ago,...I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole!

Carole - cant suggest anything really - maybe try some dilute vinegar on her coat area but not directly onto her 'flower' as it may smart a bit...otherwise youll just have to try & get other owners to get their randy wee dogs away (a serious pet hate of mine - owners that allow their dogs to mount yours/seriously pester it without making much effort, if any to stop it! grrrrrrrrr )

I DON'T BELIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE IT - it happened again at tea time, same two dogs, same distressed performance from Bingo - oh my aching leg, ouch my twisted arm!!!!!! Poor Bingo was panting fit to burst for about an hour.
However, the good news is that her prospective adopters came to visit an hour ago and fell in love with her instantly. She was really well behaved with their (neutered) dog, so good that she presented her bottom to him! Clearly, she has moved into the "receptive stage". She has been taken to visit their home and teenage daughters ready for when she moves home tomorrow evening. Must be the shortest foster on record!

Sorry IF I gave bad advice.... I've not had a bitch that hasn't been neutered so was only letting you know what my dad used to do. Guess he was wrong then!!

Please don't EVER put Jeyes fluid near my flower. Not only would I give you a funny look, but I'd definitely bite your ass. LOL

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

ah, i've been using jeyes fluid in the garden too - to clean up and freshen the toilet !!  dave and daisy keep well clear until it's dried and they haven't shown any reaction to it either.

Katrina - Im so sorry darlin - I had no intention to offend you or your fathers methods...a lot changes over the years, with vet knowledge etc..

I would never, ever, recommend using any form of household chemical on any animal - they were never designed for that sort of thing, neither was the body designed to absorb strange chemicals like that either....

Im sorry babe - i never ever meant to detriment you if thats the right word......
