Coco girl - Pouch-poached

Hi

We took our darling Coco to the vet to be neutered today and we got her back for 4.30 p.m.  Bringing her home, after buying her a new donut bed, to allow her to recuperate, she decided that the best place to snooze would be on our bed.  The wee one slept for near 3 hours and has just toddled into watch Friday night t.v with us, making herself comfy on the sofa.

Coco is still quite dopy and under the weather, feeling quite sorry for herself - mind you, so would I.  She is very brave.

We have been advised to feed her one-third of her normal portion of food for tonight and that she take it easy, not dashing off like a dafty and certainly not to lick her newly stitched wound.  Does any one have any further recuperating tips .....

On another slight topic - we have had to put the central heating on, how cold and damp is it??!!!!! - Sorry, we are in Glasgow/ west coast - first time that I have closed my windows since mid-April!!  So annoyed about the heating being on... I digress.. och, aye - the wee disco-diva is feeling quite cold, so all in the best interests of our Coco.  Oh, when Coco is asleep, she has really freeeeeky eyes - it is like a film comes over and its all very red & blood-shot... rambling !

poor little Coco! Hope she recovers swiftly - have a look at the aloe vera thread on this section Iliska - great for stopping her wound from tightening up/getting red & itchy.

Coco will know her own limits so as long as she isnt allowed to do mad circuits in the back garden/go off lead she'll work it out her self Im sure!

(ps 3rd eyelid is called the nictitating membrane - stops the eye from becoming dehyrated/getting dust etc in when sleeping. Not visible whilst awake - if it does become visible then there is a problem & you should visit your vet - you should only be able tyo see the very tip of the white edge when awake (nasal corner of the eye)

see- im at it again!! DOH

i'm so glad we have suzanne, most helpful with information, thank you (that sounds sarcastic but it honestly isn't meant that way. i, for one, very much value your knowledge).

when daisy was "done", she pretty much sorted herself out......as suzanne says, they know their own limits and will do what she can manage.  as for food, daisy wasn't interested much for a couple of days, then she was ok.

i always find that animals are fairly clever in these things and will get themselves better in their own time.

Suzanne, glad you explained the 3rd eyelid as I'v often seen this when the dogs are sleeping, and was going to ask if anyone knew if they had an extra eyelid  but didn't want to appear a fool!!

I thought it was only camels that had that, but it makes sense that Greyhounds have this also, considering they were around in ancient Egyptian times in the desert!!

so, what you're saying is that greyhounds are camels in disguise?

Hi Iluska

Hope wee Coco's better soon! I'm sure she will be. Suzanne's suggestion of Aloe Vera gel is a good one and like Suzanne and Tree say, dogs seem to know their limits as long as you are sensible too. I'd walk her on the lead until her stitches are out, then let her off for short spells. Poor wee sausage will be sore for a couple of days, so give her a big hug from me and Vegas!

Hi Tree

If greyhounds are camels in disguise, where have they hidden the hump? There aren't many places on a greyhound you could hide one of those!

Hi

Thanks for your comments - a very over anxious mum & dad.  Andy & I are glad to report that she has stopped drawing us dirty looks as well as being a wee bit more energetic.  The wee one is still sleeping a wee bit (how one really gauges this, I am unsure) longer than normal, but is very happy to go out a walk.  Plus, she is back to her grubbing - anything she sees she picks up - appetite returned.

We will keep her wound clean with salty water and apply some aloe vera gel - sorry, I had forgotten this lotion and yet I had previously bought it for Fiddie's baldy elbows.

Happy to report that Coco is nearly back to 100%.  Her appettite has pretty much returned and she is running up and down the stairs as fast as Fiddie.  She is sleeping more but that is only to be expected.

This new parent lark is stressful.....Suzanne where is your medicinal wine????
