Well we are at the fosterin' bit again. Picked Ben up from Strathaven on Friday night and what a cuddley, waggy tailed dog he is! He's got the house training well sussed and is pretty quiet or maybe a bit overwhelmed yet.
First night pretty good, asked to get out for the toilet. Saturday and Sunday night umm bit of an arguement with Florence then Dexter, which Dexter came off worse, nip to his muzzle/face. (Scars to make him more rugged looking!). During the day no probs from anyone tho, so to be on the safe side, last night we had the pleasure of Dexter's company in the bedroom. Florence, Abbey and Ben were peaceful enough in the hall, even tho Ben was at one end and the girls at the other! Think Ben likes a bit of space as he wasn't keen to go to bed last night, so night light for tonight and that fails I think Ben will have to have his own bedroom.
Early days yet, plus he's off to the vets on Thursday to get done.
Yup gettin his 'plums picked' indeed! 8.30 tomorrow!
Last night was a lot better, no noise, no moving around. Our three in the hall as usual, left the door open to the livingroom & put Ben's bed by the door, with night light on. That way they can all see each other but gives Ben the space he wants.
So hopefully it will only get better............................
Is Ben on the homeless dogs page? The two Bens I looked at both look black. Hope things settle down - the 'plum picking' ought to help. Skipper will also be plumless next week.
Ben looks great. Is he a fair size grey? - as his GAL website photo does not justify how handsome he is and makes him look a bit dumpy!! (Although I've never seen a 'short legged Greyhound before')!!
Ben looks absolutely gorgeous, he looks just like my Zada, but I know they are not related as I asked Dave a wee while ago to see Zada had an relatives through GAL.
What do you think though? Do they look like eachother?
If you hadn't noticed, I've just got the hang of this attaching photos. I'll try and stop sending photos with my replies
Hi Lita, I would say Ben is about average size although he has slimmed slightly since we got him. Either cos he's been 'done', cos he walking more or the picture in the rehoming bit is at a funny angle?!
Hi Siouxsie, Yup Zada and Ben could be twins! Ben has a wee growth thing by his left ear, you can just make it out in the BEN1 jpeg. (The side where the chow is sticking out). We call it his dreadlock! Its all cover in fur and disnae seem to bother him. (the vet wasn't concerned either)
I would have said Ben was a quiet, calm, gentleman, not into silly games kinda groo...............however yeasterday/last night a personality transplant was perform. All day he was prancing aboot draggin every single toy oot o the toy box for a major ragdollyin! Then trying to get Abbey to play!
It was a great sight to see...........maybe he's just glad to finally get his stitches oot on Wednesday, or just happy with life........who knows!?
Well Ben did his first GAL thingy yesterday at Strathclyde park. He really enjoyed the walk and was knackered all night, as were Florence, Abbey and Dexter.
Ben was a bit interested in ANY dog that wasn't a groo, but the further we went the less interested he got. (and there were alot of small fluffy dogs!). So maybe in time his fixation will lessen or he was just plain knackered!
How could I have forgetten to mention the puppy?! Molly (I think that was her name) just brings out the 'aw I want factor'...............when Dexter isn't charging at her, wee thing nearly had kittens...............Dexter, can't take him anywhere, then again his mental is that of said pup!
Met Ben at Strathclyde Park yesterday and he's lovely. He's settled in so well with you all considering he's been with you such a short time. Looking forward to hearing more about him soon.
Ben was at the vets for his first jag on Wednesday, place full of wee dugs/ pups. Ben was as good as gold. Whined a bit cos he wanted to see what what they were all up to, but I think its more being noisey than anything. He didn't lunge/strain on the lead or show aggression towards them.
Clever boy!
As for his take on Toffee and Cookie (the ferrets) now thats a different matter, they are def fair game. Can't win them all!
Ben got his first experience of the BIG puddle yesterday. We all went a jaunt to car boot sale at Ayr to get him a new bed plus have wander along the shore. (Think the world and their dog had the same idea!). Canny say he was too impressed, then again he wasn't allowed off the lead like Dexter and Florence. (Abbey has a hurt her leg, so just lead walking for the mo.) Dexter got to play with loads o dogs. It was funny watchin him playin chase with a chocolate lab, which was never gonna catch him. So he kept slowin down and lookin back as if to say 'come on, catch up'!
Ben got to see loads o dogs all shapes and sizes, which interest him no end, and three huge horses. High light o the dogs day was ALL going mental watchin a collie chasin a jackdaw. What goes on in their heads?!
Yup Siouxsie, dogs had a ball and the silent evening proved it! Florence however decided that the new fluffy bed should be her, so poor Ben didn't get to try it out all night. Like her comfort does Florence!
Not much to report, as Ben and the gang have settled into their own/our routine. Dexter has tried to play with Ben, which isn't entirely successful, more cos Ben doesn't know what he's supposed to do and Dexter is the expert at play..........
One thing Ben does get now is giving a paw (which has been foster dad's project/hard work), probably cos he (Ben!) gets food in return.........sit however is taking slightly longer.
Another really exicting update update on Ben..........
Umm....fireworks don't seem to bother him, which is a relief for his and our sake. One traumatised groo is more than enuff. (Four chill tablets last night and we have the rest of the week to go ) He loves to watch the TV , not fussed about what as long as it moves and makes a noise (Creature Comforts last night was hit!) He has also been off his lead for a few quick sprints which mostly involves chasing Dexter. He comes back (usually with the Dexter) and gets a big fuss, to which he usually starts growling . Not in a 'am gonna bite you' kinda way, just growls when he gets fussed for coming back.
Is he maybe just excited or does it remind him of racing? Any ideas?
