Wonder if anyone else has adpted a woofing greyhound.
All my previous hounds have been fairly quiet beasts until Chad who is woofing at the door permanently when no one is there. He also woofs at loud sounds outside the house/ on t.v and is very vocal at 6.30am! I offer him food but he is not hungry and is not desperate to go out either. I think he is just ready for human company and a walk.
Yesturday Kevin (my other half) went out on his bike to get milk. As soon as he had gone the woofing began. Silly me thought he wanted to go out to relieve himself (Chad not Kevin!) but no he ran straight to the first back gate and stood on his hind legs craning to see where Kevin had gone. We have 2 gates a small one to keep dogs out of the shed/cycle area and a large one at the back for security, Chad was at the first gate. He refused to come in and I had to collect him (in my nighty! not a pleasant sight).
I suspect it is a settling in thing (we have had him only a week) but I don't think woofing at this our in the mornings is doing much for neighbour relations!
All three of my dogs were very barky for a long while when I first got them. But my 2 greys were SO much noisier than my Sheltie boy. There didn't seem to be any way of stopping it. They soon calmed down a good bit after they were settled into their home. I guess it did drive the neighbours up the wall because if one of them barked then that set the other 2 off. I'm sure they will calm down eventually though as understandably it is your greys first week and he must be feeling nervous for tthe first few days.
Hope it gets better!

We had a similar problem with Blue "singing" at silly o'clock in the morning. If you check in this section under Blues early morning singing you might find some helpful advice.
Really it was just time that it took with Blue, well that and the help of a water pistol! After a year of early morning starts we resorted to squirting Blue and he soon got the message. Now he sleeps as long as we do. I wouldn't recommend this with Chad though as he's been with you such a short time and probably feeling quite insecure.
Have you tried a dap diffuser? Worked for a little while with Blue.
Fingers crossed things will settle when Chad realises you have him for keeps
Hi Emma, it's fairly early days yet for Chad so hopefully he'll calm down once he gets the lie of the land and realises that he's 'home' for good. See how he settles in the next few days and if you are still having some problems please drop Carole our follow up co-ordinator an email, she'll be more than happy to give you some advice on how to counter the (possible) seperation anxiety that Chad seems to be picking up - her email is carole@gal.org.uk
He didn't woof this morning!!!! Until he heard Kevin in the shower, as I had already taken him out I am beginning to think that it is something to do with being seperated from Kev. When he has gone to work he sniffs all around the door and won't come away!
poor Chad looks like he's fallen for Kevin!!...the best advice to stop him mopping after Kevin is for Kevin to take a bit of a back seat for a while, you do all the work with Chad like feeding grooming etc, Kevin needs to take a bit of a time out and don't give him too much attention, that should give Chad the hint that he doesn't need to follow after him or look for him wherever he goes, tough advice especially with a new dog but I'm sure it'll work!!..
Just to backup what Dave says. Our Harry can be a bit clingy and so every so often, we have to be a bit more hands-off with him. He can be a bit fixated on Steve, waiting at the door for him, following him around, etc. This results in Harry whining to be with Steve/us as soon as he wakes up in the morning - whether that's 4am or whatever! A day or so of being a bit cooler usually settles him back down again. It's not easy, but better for all of us in the long run.
We've had the same with Barney (see "I Vant to be Alone") - it's only been a couple of weeks that I've been more hands off and Chas has been hands on, but there is a definite improvement in the following - ie its a lot less!!
