Many of you will have read my previous posts re Tinker in the foster dog update column.
I'm pleased to announce that Tinker is staying with me full time - bringing my dog household to 5
Tink is a lurcher - 90% plus greyhound but perhaps touch alsation in his genes ( big pointy ears and intelligence - no not Mr Spock )
You not have realised that a some of my foster dogs were adopted by me due to what turned out to be long term problems. Soft heart - I'd rather put up with your problems than see you bounced out of new homes
Tink - was not one - he has a few minor things we are working on! Just simple adolescent stuff -
He was a pup - who was in kennels for months - who was homed but not neutered at the correct time and was not trained / disciplined and who was allowed to do what he liked inside and out of doors. Basically he was an out of control teenager who loved to act the 'hard man'. He developed a reputation and his attitude nearly ended with him being pts
He was rescued by GAL with only 2 days to go to his pts date
He was in for a shock when he arrived at my house - 4 dogs (2 boys and 2 girls) who knew precisely where he would fit in! Bottom of the pack! He learned that lesson in first 2 hours. So swaggering, aggressive, boisterous boy was reduced to quivering boy by confrontation with two girls who knew how to handle him. Mick , my dominant male , just had to growl and that was that, and Trei, my very passive laid back boy also manged a growl to sort things out.
So - Tink - the boy who was going to be pts as a result of his attitude was put in his place within hours.
But as you parents will know re teenage boys - firm rules, boundaries, consequences re your actions - rewards - penalties. with no deviation means RESULTS
Basically Tink is a fun loving guy - an extrovert - he just needed a firm hand - and I have got to say guidance from older dogs - he has brought his youthful fun to our house. It such joy to see him playing with the other dogs! He is one of those dogs who brings out best in the others. But he now knows his place and is very happy with that
Mind you he does try to push the boundaries - another dog or fox on his patch brings out the ' young macho guy - barking stuff'- firm response required. We have now moved on from a firm 'No' and water squoosh to a firm 'No' He is eager to learn
Nice speaking to you on Saturday and well done and best wishes with Tinker - he couldn't have asked for a better home. Remember to keep us updated on all news ....
Great news about Tinker! I'm sure he'll be very happy to be staying with you and the rest of the gang. What a lucky boy. Probably see you all at the next event!
There is an ongoing need for new homes / foster homes.
I know I have some spare time and some space to fit in my hounds.
But bottom line - can you give a permanant home or a foster home to needy hound. Many of you with have at least one hound but what about another? Dogs do fit in!
I'm working away on my computer in my bedroom - glancing to my lounge - 2 on the sofa, two in do beds and one on a duvet. Total peace.
As much as I'd love to Charles I live in London and already have 2 ghs and a sheltie! But I do agree with you that someone somewhere has space for a needy greyhound. Go on, go on!
Loadsa Luv from Sarah,Mark n the Cats n dogs (n fish lol) xx
This is not about Tink but another one year old lurcher mix boy who has recently come into Scottish SPCA at Bothwell. He is a big black boy with wee strip of white on his chest. He got quite a mix of genes - bigger head and big pointy ears ( alsation)
Usual story - one year old, not neutered, very intelligent, can be boisterous , macho boy stuff, but very willing to learn. ( He quickly backed down when faced older mature female today ) Probably bought/homed as a young pup now too much to handle as he is now fully grown No doubt allowed to run about free on his own. ( not prepared to neuter, train and continue to have a firm hand ) he was hit by a car - no great damage - but he was not claimed within the seven days.
Just another in the never ending list of pups who get too big etc etc etc and get 'moved on' at around one year old. Can replace him another wee cuddly pup.
