Hi everybody, Just thought i'd say hello to you all. My name is Sally & i live in Inverness shire with my partner Dec with our 3 rescue greyhounds & my horse Perrie.
I got my first greyhound Mia who is a light fawn bitch when she was just 10 months old from the SSPCA in Stirling. She is now 7 years old.
My second greyhound is called Scooby. He was a cruelty case. The SSPCA found him with two others living in a boot of a car. Scooby was the worst case, he was near on deaths door with being starved. His previous owners did get prosecuted for this animal cruelty. He 2 years old & is red in colour. I got Scooby from an animal aid north of Inverness i have had him for almost 1 year.
My third greyhound is called Sparky. He is an ex racer who just didn't make the grade. He is black in colour & is 19 months of age. I got him in June this year from Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. Finally i have got my horse, her name is Perrie. She is a chestnut thoroughbred mare who i just adore. She wasn't a rescue!!
All our dogs give Dec & myself a great deal of pleasure. They love nothing more than cuddling up on there own sofa sleeping. We take them up to our local Loch letting them off there leads so that they can have a good run around. They get 3 meals a day & just love there treats.
People often stop us asking about them. People think greyhounds need loads of walks & lots of food. This is rubbish but people presume that all the time.
I have grown up with greyhounds from such a young age & to be honest i wouldn't have anything else. They are the most trusted dog i have ever come across. My 3 hate cats & would chase them but i suppose it's in there breed. Where i live there are a lot of wild rabbits but we have to be very careful when we are out otherwise they would give chase. My mother has 2 Shih Tzus all the dogs get on fine & play together. We are one happy family.
Well i better not go on & on otherwise i will be here all day.
Hope to make a lot of friends on here,
Thanks, Sally

I am sure i will be very addicted to this site which i am looking forward to.
VEE: Horses are not cheap to keep by all means. I am very fortunate that i have my own land facing my house to keep Perrie. Firstly you need to get a lot of riding lessons & then when you buy the horse that can work out expensive too. You have to get a farrier out every 6 - 7 weeks to shoe them. There is insurnace, vet bills, wormers, tack, rugs, riders clothing etc to keep forking out for. If you put your horse on a livery you can pay anything up to £300 per month. I am in the process of awaiting to get approved planning permission for a stable to be built for this forthcoming winter. Youngsters don't think of the these things & they all amount up. If your daughter is interested may be take her to a riding school for a couple of lessons to see how she gets on & whether she will enjoy it. Believe me it is very hard work. I have to muck out twice a day & feed Perrie twice a day.
Hope i haven't put you off at all. It is a very big commitment. Just as much as owning a dog is i suppose.

Thanks for posting the info on horse-keeping.I have thought about getting Eilidh a horse for some time as she has been a commited rider for 3 or 4 years now going twice a week and really does have a passion for horses. Its just the cost of things that puts me off really as I'm quite a big horse lover myself ...
Sorry for rambling on and on I know this is a greyhound based forum and not a horse. Apologies !
Instead of buying a horse, have you thought of loaning one or even sharing one until you are certain that you do want a horse of your own?? It is a thought as it would stop the initial outlay of buying one. If you are loaning you don't pay for the usage all you pay is the upkeep of the horse & where it is going to stay. If you were to do a share, say a couple of days a week then a contribution is usually required plus 1/2 farrrrier costs. If you should need anymore info just let me know. It's a pity you weren't closer to me as i am looking for someone to ride Perrie a few days a week.
Thanks, Sally

I also have a horse called Oz who lives on a farm not far from me (17hh Belgian warmblood), another point to make about having your own for Vee is get over & muck out, fill haynets, water buckets etc in the cold winter days & if your daughter can handle that you should be ready for anything!
