Yippee,

Yesterday was the first day I let Zada off the lead and she was perfect. We have had her a while, but she has seemed quite keen and her attention could be taken off us quite quickly, so we just keep working on it, with treats and certain words. So yesterday while I was out with Zada and Saska, I decided this should be the time for a distance, at first she wouldn't leave myside and I would try to run but she was stuck at myside,(great heel work), she wouldn't run about with Saska. Then after a while she started sniffing about and I walked in the opposite direction and called on her and she ran straight to me. Then she took off bouncing about lovely every minute of it, big smile on her face everytime i recalled - I was smiling away - soaking wet - but smiling. Saka meantime doing her

Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you, as no doubt many of you have experience the same feeling and will understand completely.

Here's to many more runs, hopefully in not such wet weather.

Hi

It's a fantastic feeling to see them run for fun isn't it (although I understand with some greys this would never be possible due to prey drive).

We did a lot of work with Blue in the garden before we let him off in public so we felt confident he would come back to the shepherds whistle and he had met many small dogs whilst on the lead with no probs at all.

It is breath taking to see them run flat out but for me my favorite is when Blue runs and does a little wiggle in mid air like a springy sausage just with the sheer joy of life.

Have fun with Zada and watch out for those very accurate recalls that knock you off your feet as they come crashing into you!

Hello Amanda,

What a great description, " wiggle in mid air like a springy sausage" - love it, I couldnt have said it better myself - thats what I meant by bouncing .

And the perfect recalls that knock you off your feet I remember them only too well with my lurchers.

You Lucky lot, Siouxie, Amanda and Nora -

I wish I could do that with my two. Tiger is a nightmare with cats and Chad is even worse with small dogs. I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to someone elses pet.

I can't even begin to imagine training either to come back when they see something (they temporarily go deaf) and stare at the intended victim. I am even frightened with them on the lead with dogs that are off.

Mel,

I bet Sanna can't wait till she is back to her usual self, stitches out and running in the graveyard again.

I have to say I so wish I could let my gang off lead but because I live far too close to a major road I would rather keep them safe and on the lead.
