My two have started something really wierd and it is revolting.
Tiger stands tall and appears to make himself look as dominant as poss over Chad if you see what I mean. Chad then licks Tigers er....... privates. It is foul and even the kids have noticed. What is going on? They are both male (and perverts I think! lol). Em X
This happens to Blue a lot round the village too, he is, however, always the lickee.
I've always assumed it's a submission thing, but there's even an enormous Alsatian who's more like a grizzly bear than dog who does it too. Perhaps Blue's tougher than we imagine, the Alsation's owner just mutters things about buying his dog a magazine, "to show him the way".

Both my dogs are intact neither has been neutered. I have had 4 greys to date - all boys - none neutered. I guess you probably think this strange but I really have never given it much thought.
We took Charlie to the vets because he was a real handful when we got him with seperation problems and running after anything that moved. I couldn't have had a crying child under about four in here because he would have attacked. The vet refused to neuter him saying it was a risk and because there were no female dogs nearby why did we want it done. We said to calm him, the vet said that it was his chase instinct and neutering would not really help - we left it. I know that Chad was bred from two really good racing dogs Minnies Oxana and Chart King. They tried to breed from him and took him to Ireland, where he went on hunger strike and was swiftly returned home (clever boy). Therefore, he has not been neutered.
I know this sounds silly but after reading how poorly they can be after neutering and just losing Charlie, I couldn't put either of them at risk. I guess I'll have to put up with their strange show of power.
I understand how scared you must be after reading some of the problems that have happened recently however this is rare.
We have had 2 boys neutered our Blue and foster dog Spartacus. I dread to think what would have happend to Blue if we hadn't had him done as it turned out he had a tumour of one of his testicals (thought to be caused by use of steroids whilst he was racing) and with in a week of his op we noticed he was a much fitter, healther and happier dog.
Spartacus slept for 1 day and then tore around the house like a nutter with us trying to keep him calm, you wouldn't know he had had anything done.
What I'm trying to say is I understand where you are coming from but don't rule it out compleatly. I believe the op saved our boys life.
If I were you, I would have your boys neutered. Yes, all operations are risky.... even the ones performed on humans carry a risk with regards to anaesthetic. However, if you do have your dogs neutered you could be potentially saving them from life-threatening conditions such as testicular and other cancers later on in life.
Gambol was already neutered when we got him and while Jamie was still a foster with us he was done too. The first day Jamie was a little more tired than usual but next day..back to normal. He's much calmer now too and seems far more content so give it a little thought.

I believe that all dogs (and cats) if not being kept for breeding are better off neutered. Before they are neutered they are driven by their hormones - much more likely to misbehave, pee indoors, get feisty etc. Then - as several people have pointed out - there are the health benefits of neutering, and that goes for girls and boys.
The dominant stance thing is normal though. I think most boys do it (although possibly not the licking part).
Thanks for all your comments - you've all nearly convinced me. It's just the males in my house (God no you can't do that to them) was along the lines of what they said. They seem to think that the dogs won't play anymore and will slow down and be no fun!
Did you know that someone has invented inplants for dogs that have been neutered. Apparently they come in a variety of different shapes and sizes.......
All the dogs that I've taken to be neutered have all calmed down considerably. Even some of the DISGUSTING habbits like licking up bitch pee has stopped.
Just remember every dog is different and that the vast majority of all operations go fine without problems.
Actually, I think this is a woman thing just as much. Our vet's a woman, and she seems VERY keen on whipping them out. She also insists on using the term, "castration", even though I asked her nicely to use the term, "Pockets picked". All in all, she seems to be taking far too much joy from the whole thing. Not sure I like the way she looks at me neither.
Here's a link to the delightful "Neuticles" website, not only different sizes and shapes, but also a variety of "firmness".
I haven't laughed so much in ages - check out the Neuticle shop - you can buy keyrings & NECKLACES with an actual neuticle attached (and specify the size!)
