Gentle Leader

Hi

For those of you who use a gentle leader with your hound - what size would you recommend.

I'm thinking of trying it with Harley - we currently use a leather head collar.  I think the Medium size would be best but not sure - he is a large greyhound but has a very long slim nose!

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Lorna

We use one with Harry and I'm pretty sure that it's a medium. They're fairly adjustable so you should be able to get a good fit.

Hi Lorna, I'm sure the one we got for Buddy is a medium one, they are VERY adjustable...hopefully Viv or Andy & Iluska will remeber what size it was and post here but I'm sure it was medium...

Sorry for the delay in responding

I can confirm that a MEDIUM Gentle Leader will fit any Greyhound in the land.

Please take care when fitting, it is crucial to it being effective.

Cheers,

Viv

Max got his Gentle Leader on Sunday.  David fitted it on him as he knows how it should fit.

I cannot believe the difference in Max - its like walking a totally different dog!!!

When John & I have been out walking at nights, I have actually taken Max the past 3 nights instead of Tyler!!!

Poor Tyler has been pulling quite hard on her night time walks which is totally out of character but she's suffering from post firework syndrome and is still quite nervy when out at night.  It will take a couple of weeks for her to build up her confidence again.

I can sympathise, Lita. Vegas does this too when I take him out at night. It's as soon as he's finished doing what he has to do, then back home as soon as he can. He'll need a few firework-free nights to make him a bit calmer outside when it's dark.

Poor Tyler and Vegas. Harry's not bothered but Pearly is still a bit skittish. It's been really windy down our way the past few nights and she thinks every gust is a scary-monster ready to pounce on her.

Hi Viv

Great to hear you will be at the xmas show.....I thought I would get over to see you before now with Mac, but the pups are taking up all my time!  Was it the gentle leader you had in mind for Mac, if so please put my name down for one, or if it wasnt that, could you please bring along whatever you had recommended for him.  Look forward to seeing you and finding out when you next puppy training class is.

Many thanks

Dawn, Mad Mac, Denzel, Presley and the little one

Looking for some help with a gentle leader please!!  I bought one today for Eddie.

We've never walked any of our dogs on the neck (personal choice, feel we have more control using harness than a neck collar) but will he still need a harness on for walking - therefore using 2 leads?

sorry if this sounds a bit dim!!!

Sharon

Hi Sharon, just picked up on this but afraid i won't be much help to you as none of mine are walked on a harness anyway. I feel the gentle leader gives me enough control and a feeling of security and have never found a harness necessary, and i personally think two leads would get me in a bit of a muddle when Walking more than one dog at a time!!

Would be interesting to  see the advice of people using a harness (or both).

Eddie is just the same - so much calmer!  I don't need the harness on for backup anymore, and I feel quite in control with just the gentle leader on!  Certainly makes walking a lot less stressful!!
