boohooo...

On Tuesday night I attended my 1st "Puppy party" at the vets - the room was full of about 8 pups of diff breeds all under 10wks old!

*Everyone say AAAAWWWWWWWW*

I had a great time playing with them all as the vet nurse talked to the owners about various issues.

I awoke at 3am the next morning however with a painful reminder of the night ....one of the cute likkle fluffy bundles came along with some rather unwanted pals....

I counted 11 flea bites up my arm & good god do they itch like crazy!

Its now Friday & the bites have become infected coz I cant stop scratching em & have obviously picked up bacteria from the vets along the way.

My arm is now puffed up from elbow to wrist, bright red & boiling hot.....

I went to a pharmacy but they told me to go to my doctors for antibiotics as I have an acute allergic reaction/infection brewing....

I HATE taking antibiotics....so does anyone have any other ideas on how to take the burning & itching away?? any ie. homemade brews...???

ps. have taken piriton all week - its not done a thing.

Feeling a tad sorry for myself here.....& trying DESPERATELY not to itch!

Guess its just a perk of the job....NOT!

Did you read in the paper today about the man who died from a flea bite?

I think it the swelling caused a constriction in his veins and he died from a blood clot or somethng like that.

NICE!!  Wee beggers, (the fleas, not the puppies.)

aww suzanne, how awful.  tho i'm sure carol's post will make you feel so much better and optimistic about the infection clearing up in no time !!!!!  lol

sounds bad enough to get antibiotics tho, suzanne.  i wouldn't mess around with homemade brews but get to your docs to relieve the itching and infection as soon as.

was it worth it to be surrounded by so many adorable puppies tho?  i would probably think so !!

What about Calamine Lotion! i think it works a treat for itches.

Hope it clears up soon, Suz.

Hi Suzanne

Much as I hate visiting the doctor myself, I'd hotfoot it there for some antibiotics. Sounds as if the infection needs to be cleared sharpish!

I'm just concerned that the infection will travel - it's better to be nipped in the bud.

Don'cha just love pups? The little culprit should be treated too!

OK OK - im really an antagonist at heart & Im ditching the doctor route in favour of my body hopefully rallying round & fighting this nasty inflammation...

I have to laugh tho...its almost akin to having the lurgie (sp?). Show folk your arn, they ask "my - whats that??"

"Flea bites" I say...and they take a step back......hmmmmm

Suzanne - the best thing for allergic itching - apart from drugs - is an ice pack!  Messy yes - but effective!

If it happens again (and you know it will!) then get yourself some mid steroid cream, like HC45. I had a bad reaction to insect bites during the summer - which, for me, is very unusual cos my skin is like rhino hide! Anyhoo, the bites were red and swollen and my skin felt very hot. I put on the cream before going to bed and by the next morning they were already a lot better.
