OMG - Did anyone see BBC News 24's news article on the cat and dog fur trade from China to Europe ?

The pictures they showed were horrific !

Dogs and cat squashed into cages in disgusting conditions. I'd also bet they are NOT humanely killed.

Fur Trade

Apparently the trade is LEGAL the BBC also showed alsation and cat pelt coats.

How can we help stop this ?

Katrina.

I would sign a petition or write to the Chinese authorities to get this stopped too - but practices like this that are banned, are quite often driven underground. One very effective way of stopping it, is to educate the people who buy the merchandise. If there are no buyers, there is no profit and the practice will end very quickly. There is absolutely no need for people to wear dead animals to keep warm in these modern times. The people who do should be made to feel like social lepers. So the media - television, newspapers, magazines could help a lot here too.

I agree with all your comments - I saw it on the news last night it was disgusting. Paul MaCartny said that he will not play in China while such babaric acts continue.

The news report also said that it is European and American people who buy the stuff the Chinease don't buy it themselves. How to educate these people? I don't know, much of Europe and America has a different view of animals to us. I saw a web site on t.v which is for people to SHOOT live animals online in America, the people using it were from all over the world. When I think about it - all the cruelty - it just seems so big that where to start to educate these folk is impossible. It frustrates me that really there is just no easy solution.
