Greyhounds cover 480 meters in approx 28 seconds - twice the speed of a human athlete.

Keep these greyhound facts coming Dave.

It is showing me how little I know about these wonderful dogs even though I have one leaning on my lap just now!

to back Dave up, heres another wee gem:

Extendable leads must NEVER be used with Greyhounds as they can break their necks. Physicists figured out that when a Greyhound takes off at a dead run, there is 228lbs of pressure exerted on the leash as well as your arm!!

Suzanne - I'm surprised Vegas hasn't dislocated my shoulder before now! Carol will back me up on this, I'm sure - Vegas is disguised as a Lurcher - he's actually a Huskie!

Harry is even faster than what Dave quoted. He covered a whopping 525 yards in a tiny 27.71 seconds, and 325 yards in 18.66 seconds. Bluddy heck!

Pearly is a bit more sedate - 525 yards in 30.92s and 325 yards in 19.37s. Still incredibly impressive for a little 'un.

Fiona

ps: I sometimes use a short extendable lead on Pearly, but only ever attached to a strong harness.

I'm not a physicist Suzanne, but I can confirm this, cos when Mac took off one morning after a cat.....complete with me attached to the lead, it was at least that amount of pressure....horizontal flying at 5.30am is such fun..except for the pain in the shoulder!!
