We are thinking of visiting Dino's parents in Australia next Autumn which means sorting out a kennel or dog sitter for the hounds. Last time I was there I spent my whole holiday worrying about the dogs boarded in a kennel. I think the kennel was pretty good, it only took 8 dogs, had a little enclosed area for free play and they were taken daily walks but our hounds seemed pretty depressed when we got them home.
Anyway I'm planning ahead and looking to find a fab place where the dogs will enjoy themselves (or at least tolerate the situation) and looking for suggestions. Anybody found either a kennel or dog sitter / boarder that goes that extra mile to make a hound happy? We're in Edinburgh but have no problem travelling for the right place.
Hi Jade - I agree with Suzanne, I'd go for Langbank anytime. We leave Vegas there every year when we go on holiday and we know that he'll be fine while we're away. He always looks terrific when we come back and gives us a great welcome! Rachel and Eddie are wonderful with the dogs in their care.
There are directions on the Events section of the Forum, I think, for the last Awareness Day that was held there. Langbank is on the road to Port Glasgow from Glasgow Airport. The Kennel Club launch is at Langbank on Tuesday 27 December if you can manage.
Hi Jade, there's an alternative to kennels - check out on this forum under - HELPFUL INFORMATION - Boarding Kennels & Alternatives. There is a thread about 'The Pet Hotel' who offer either coming to your house to look after your dogs or your dogs go to theirs!
Thanks Christine, I'll get in touch with them and get a bit more info. Would you PM me their phone number if you have it? Gives us an extra incentive to come to the kennel launch if we can check out the facilities!
Thanks Lita I have found my way to the Helpful Info bit now and have called The Pet Hotel. Carole (Pet Hotel) suggested we should visit after Christmas to get a bit more info.
I'd like to look at a few places so welcome any other suggestions too.
I don't know where you stay but I live in Penicuik and the kennels I use here are fantastic. The owner is now a friend of mine and I sometimes help out when she's really busy so I have first hand experience on how all the dogs are looked after. I will say she is usually booked a year in advance, if you were interested I'll send you the details.
I live in Edinburgh so Penicuik would be pretty handy. Please PM me the details and I'll give them a call. I plan to have a look at a few places then choose whichever I feel happiest about.
Not that theres anything wrong with Langbank but we would recommend the "Pet Hotel" in Kirkie. We left Keera (who can be a bit uptight at times ...) there for a few days and she was more than happy. There is a dedicated room for the dogs, with dedicated couches, dedicated seats - all the home comforts with a daily walk and a back garden.
And the family are lovely people who love their dogs to bits.
